Fixing my second gear myself?

From the day I got my bike second gear has always slipped a bit and it seems to be getting worse now to the point where I would realy like to fix it/get it fixed.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with fixing it them selves?  I read in an old post that the shift forks can be replaced without removing the engine?  So if anyone would like to chime in I dont have a ton of experience working on bikes.  Just done the basics on my dirtbikes when I was young top ends, kickshafts, clutch, etc... so not sure if I should try to tackle this my self.

I'd say based on your experience, you should go for it.   
Just be sure to have a manual handy.

Have you tried adjusting the clutch? I thought my second gear was fubar, it was slipping and poping out into neutral. Adjusted the clutch according to the manual and it was all good.

Ya I was hoping it might just be a clutch problem but adjusting it did not seem to make any difrence.  So I guess I am going to open it up and try to find the problem.  I would imagine I will be on here posting alot more questions once I get into it.

Just as an FYI, last weekend I spend about 3 hours adjusting the clutch before I was happy that it wasn't slipping or dragging... That stupid little screw that you back off when you meet high resistance and then tighten the locknut is a real pain.
