Yes, twin disc factory clip on forks are longer.

ahh hah, thanks for that, so does that effect the amount of oil that needs to go in the fork after ive fitted new seals? the manual i have states 495mm per leg and an air gap of 105mm....ive also just measured mine and the groove is 55mm from the top without the cap fitted, the spring length is 295mm.. is that within service limits? can anyone point me to an online service manual for the jap model... please

According to the manual (which is on here): 505ml.

You'll have to adjust airgap from there.

Me too, I've looked all over the place but can't find a service manual for the early Jap spec B4. It's listed on carlsalter.com but the link to the manual doesn't work. If someone has a copy of the Japanese manual I'd be interested.  :thanks:

tomacGTi, where in downloads? Only one I could find is titled GSF400 GK75A but it doesn't cover the Japanese model with the twin front discs, clip-ons and stainless exhaust.

Then there isn't a Jap manual, you'll have to make due with what's there then.

so to confirm.. there is no manual here for the 89/90 jap import model with twin disc brakes and clip-on bars! so 505ml per leg isnt correct for that model?

Hi wantone and everyone
i use two great guys.. who are twins that run they own bike shop in southampton, uk... ask them if they knew any way of working out the oil/airgap on the jap 400...answer No  didn’t know any way other then tried. all that anyone can do is try the normal amount, test, and if needed add ! and test again until you are happy with the ride.
