Title: Going racing!
Post by: Garyola on May 01, 2008, 03:28:24 PM
Finally got this thing together.
New swing arm, sv rear wheel(for the 165 Dunlop slick), frame sliders, new dual discs and new 88 GSXR750 fairing.
I don't have the new carbs on yet. They are coming this week along with the new Hindle can.
I'm off to the track in a few hrs for practice tomorrow.
It looks like rain . If I can afford a set of rains I will get them. If not I may be coming home early because all I have is slicks.
I think they have wireless internet at the track. If they do I will keep you posted on how the little B4 does. (it will do fine. It's up to the rider)

Cheers
G

Gary you have to move the wind dam down and closer but the tail looks sweet. What i mean is get in a bikes draft and pull out and see if you drop back like you through up a sail, just my eye but i think it is mounted a bit high. Oh and give em hell brother.

I was one of those crazy race weekends. I didn't practice on Friday because it was raining and Dunlop was sold out of rain tires my size and I had to wait until Saturday for more to arrive. Saturday came and I got the tires but it had stopped raining and the track was dry except for the river running across two for the last corners. So the slicks stayed on. These are the new N-Tech slicks from Dunlop. More about those later. Practiced Saturday morning in two classes, Vintage and Sportsman Lightweight. The qualifier was Saturday afternoon. The grid was tiny so we had to race with the 125gp class so it was going to be a two waved start. We went out on the warm up lap and about 30seconds into it the skies open up. they sent us off the track to get our wet setup on. I said screw it. There were only 2 or 3 rows in each of my races so the worst that could happen is I would be on the back row. I just didn't feel like getting anymore cold and wet.
Sunday was good and dry except for the stream that was still running across turn 6.
Started on the second row. Got an average start, made a pass or two and then put the bike right behind the 2nd place guy. I was very close and looking for a place to pass on lap 4 and then the B4 developed a miss and I started to lose ground to the 2nd place guy. A lap later the 4th place guy is on my tail and I held him off until the last corner and he just had more power than I could get out of my ailing little bike and he beat me to the finish. I ended up 4th. :annoy:
I still had fun and enjoyed it all.

I let the bike cool and went out for my next race but the bike was just not on and I had to get it off the track before I finished my 1st lap.

I don't have pictures because I forgot to go and pick them up.

N-Tech Dunops:

A new tire from them. The National series here is a spec tire series. Meaning everyone has to run Perelli. That has pissed off a lot of people including racers and vendors. The regional races are an open market. In the 600 race(DOT Race tires), guys that were mid pack like 10 -15th, on Pirelli's in the National series, were putting the same bike on the front rows with Dunlops. Once that happened the Dunlop dealer was very busy all weekend.
I rode on them this weekend and they are great tires.

I'm getting at it again in two weeks if I can sort this bike out.

Yes, it is a little high. I'll see what I can do. I need some time now to get ready. I didn't have much time to get my bike together for this race. I'll be more prepared for the next one.

OK Folks
Spent the Weekend at Shannonville Racing at the VRRA Quinte TT. It's a vintage race weekend. The B4 qualifies for Period 4 lightwieght class.
I had the new carbs just about right for Saturday's practices and qualifying race.
During the race the bike worked real well but was running lean and started to bog a bit because of overheating. Had to finish the race short shifting to keep it cool. Thirty + racers in the saturday qualifier and I put the B4 on the front row by finishing 3rd.
Saturday night my mechanic buddy put bigger jets in the bike to get more gas to stop the over heating and the experiment failed. We went up too big and while I was slowing down on the track to let fast racers get by my flooding bike I had a mishap and my weekend ended. I didn't get to race in the final but I got a ride in the ambulance back to the pits. The bike sustained cosmetic damage only and I'm just bruised up.
The CR carbs on the bike make this a whole new weapon. It pulls hard out of corners and when you get on the throttle the response is immediate. I will try to get the B4 to Pro6 for a tune up using the dyno and be ready in a couple of weeks for the next event.

If you want to see a few practice laps go to the link below. The video is low grade because I had the camera set up wrong and the batteries were old. So look at it as small as you can to get some good quality.

I like the new swinger. The bike is much more nimble at higher speeds. Putting the 4.5 inch rim on the rear helps to get to the edge of the Dunlops. Overall the whole package feels much better than last season. It's much more fun to ride.
Also I used your CDI box and it worked just fine. How much $$ do you want for it?

Hope your not banged up too bad. Sounds like your getting it all dialed in. When's your next race? Sounds like a awsome time! I had 2 500VFRs that were going to be donated to my racing cause, but the wife put the veto on my racing. She doesn't mind me doing open practice though. I'd be pushing harder if it were a actual race. :beers: Dan

It is getting dialed in. I may not be able to race for a while now. My knee is in some discomfort. Nothing broken but bad bruising.
There are two races coming up in July so I should be good to go to them. This old body takes a little longer to heal these days. What I find is that these crashes and get offs do not deter me, they make me even more determined to get it right.
