Author Topic: Hugger/Chainguard Project (Read 7422 times)

Before we were 'interupted', I was trying to figure out what to use for a chainguard. The hugger just isn't the look I want for my bike. I bought a guard from an 89 GS500. The mounting holes were close but it was too long and very bulky looking. I got one from an SV but the holes weren't even close - off by over an inch.

So.... I decided to get my dremel and try to make the bulky GS guard look like the more modern SV. It's not perfect but I am real happy with the results:

I got a little screwed-up on that hole in the front. I've actually cleaned it up a little more since the pic. It looks cool on the bike. I'll get a pic if my bike ever makes it back out of my garage (is it spring YET?????).

Sweet dude. I can't wait to see it on the bike. I'm glad you figured something out. Its almost spring. I predict no more snow after March 19. The prediction isn't based on anything... but thats what I'm hoping.

What dremel technique did you find worked the best for cutting the plastic? A cut off wheel on a slow speed?

Thanks. I used a cut-off wheel on full speed for most of it and then both sizes of sanding drums for the corners and to smooth everything.

Gotta say - I did feel a little like Paulie with that cut-off wheel in my hands!!!!! LOL!

(Unfortunately, the result is prolly more like something Mikey would do!)
