Title: Heated Clothing
Post by: Vidrazor on August 21, 2005, 11:33:03 PM
I suppoose this may be comical, considering all the electrical problems '400s seem to have, but has anyone ever hooked up an electric vest or juacket to a '400? I saw this and thought it would be great for winter riding

Of course, I suppose I'll need to get my bike running right at all to even try anything so daring. I was about to go through the electrical fault finding as per my previous thread on the subject, when the other problem I have with my '400 (stalling at low rpm/idle)) evolved from intermittent to permanent status. Back to the shop tomorrow.

Anyway, just curious if anyone ever "wired up" on a '400. Thanks.

I haven't but if I were to do something to make cold weather riding more tolerable, the first thing I would do is heated grips.  I can usually bundle up enough to keep everything warm but my hands.

Typically, the electrical requirement for gloves or grips is lower than what's needed for a vest. I do have heated gloves and it really keeps the rest of me warm. Grips are easier because you don't have any electric lines to you but gloves keep you warmer.

6 amps isn't much of a draw. My B12 doesn't have any trouble running heated grips and the standard Gerbing jacket (which draws the same as the thin one they reviewed in the link).

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking more along the lines of having the jacket for the vital organs and arms, and "cup" shields on the bars for the hands, with appropriate gloves.
