Officially pissed at the project 400...
« on: August 22, 2006, 11:12:59 PM »
Okay, so after making sure the ignition works, getting a new battery, coils and cdi, new carbs from Jay's buddy in Japan, going through the wiring, rebuilding the front forks and brake, changing the oil, buying bodywork, and a bunch of other misc junk, I finally get everything hooked back up, check the oil pressure, open the rebuilt petcock, light the wick, and blammooo...

Nothing. Engine's siezed, obviously from oil starvation caused by the cracked engine case I replaced. When I got the bike, the guy I got it from said that it had been down, but not too bad, just needed the case. I replaced the case, the oil wasn't too low so I wasn't real worried, but now, I'm pissed. :rant2:

In any case, I'm probably parting out the bike, so any offers for the bike as a whole, or any parts, will be accepted. Actually, I'd love to get rid of it all in one fell swoop, so the first reasonable offer for everything takes it. Just gone over carbs from Jay, good coils, good CDI, fresh forks and master cyinder, spare front wheel, spare junk forks, extra-junky wiring harness, PitterB4's Vance and Hines system, factory exhaust, extra mid-pipe for hi-mount pipe if you want, the list is pretty big. Make me an offer quick, and my anger would probably make me accept it.

I'd like to not spend one more penny on it if possible.

Did you need to replace the left cover? Because the starter clutch is behind that one, maybe it's only the starter clutch that's broken?

Jay, that was the first thing I did when I got the bike, I gave it a good half a turn in each direction, but never made a full revolution in case the guy before me had really messed something up I didn't want to throw anything out of wack. It turns about 3/4 of a revolution but gets hung up somewhere. After pulling the head for a better look-see this A.M. I found the offending piece, it's the piston stuck in the cylinder, and obviously the connecting rod is broken, because that piston doesn't move when the rest of them do.

Sure, I'll sell you what I got for $500, deliver it this weekend, you put your parts in it, then turn around and sell it for $1500.

Deal?

 :beers:

I hope you had the cam chain tensioned when you did that, because the crankshaft is only supposed to turn to the right, looking at it from the clutch side of the bike.
