I have been working on getting my back back together for a while now. I just ordered rings and all of the other parts to get it running again and have probably one last question before all is done. I have a brake cylinder hone with a range large enough for the bores in the engine. Can I use this to hone it or should I get a Engine specific hone. Is the only difference the length/size of the stones? I was looking at an "engine" hone the stones were 4" length, the one I have they are 1.125" length. Can I use the brake hone since it will be large enough or is there a reason for the longer stones?

heres the deal bro a stone hone will take material out as a flexball hone will not what you wanna do is just deglaze and re cross hatch and thats what a ball hone is for! isf your cylinders are to bad you may wanna opt for a big bore kit as replacement pistons are not available , but from me and TTs but if ya go the tts route plan to pay $1000.00! cheers jay

Ok well I've looked up flex hones, what size do I use? Slightly smaller or slightly larger than the bore?
-
those are the ones with the little balls attached right? slightly bigger!use some solvent and stroke it fast!lol( I saiid stroke it)
-
Slightly bigger gotcha, I was reading on another site, mostly dirtbike related and they were telling someone to use one slightly smaller than the bore size, didn't make much sense to me.

those are the ones with the little balls attached right?...!use some solvent and stroke it fast!
Sounds like a man with WAY too much experience!!!!!!

:stop: How did I know something like that would come from some one like you! LMAO

Ok so I went to Napa, they are ordering a ball hone for me tomorrow. How long do these things last, one will do the job right?
-
They last a long time. You could do several engines.

One last question what grit should I use, I just called napa they can get 180-240, I was told to look for 400. Should I just order a 400 grit off the internet? Or GSXR what grit do you use?
-
any of those would do i would get the 240 all this is gonna do is take the glaze of and re put the cross hatch back in for new rings you want a 45 degree angle! so move it fast!
