New to me 1992 GSF400 w/dual front calipers
« on: May 11, 2013, 03:28:39 PM »
Hello everyone! I've done some searching and read through the parts lists, but I am unable to locate information on my brake calipers. Bike bandit shows a LH/RH option but I am unsure if these are correct. I need to rebuild them as the pistons were stuck after bike sat for around two years! Would like to verify rebuild item P/N's

Thank you in advance for any help!

The problem is that Suzuki never brought the dual disc models over here.

So what you have is either a grey market bike, brought over from Europe that had the duals or you have a bike that had a front end swap done by the previous owner.

The first place I'd start is with the VIN and see if you can search/decode it to see the bikes destination as a clue.

Ultimately, you might have to pull apart one of the calipers, clean the brake pads and see if you can find a part number on them and google search to see what models they fit to see if you a franken bike or something that came in from overseas.

If the calipers are like mine, there is simply a "tokico" stamp in the side with no other identifications. You could also post a picture here too and someone might recognize them right off the bat....(and post what the piston diameters measure)

Post pics of:

Top and bottom or the fork tubes.
Bottom triple
Any adjustment screws or bolts/nuts.

I bet it's off an old gsxr.

With Nickelodeons guidance(thank you!) I explored the front end swap idea and it appears that my calipers are the same found on the Katana from same year.

I'll take some close up pics of the forks after work and post them. Here is the bike as I bought it. You can sort of see the caliper hanging and the mounting holes on the fork.

Thanks! Under $500 in it so far. That's gonna go up, but that's part of the fun! Needs some maintenance like tires and brake rebuild but runs pretty well. :thumb:

She is mostly apart now getting a good cleaning and getting rid of the white covers. I'm also going through and correcting all the oddball bolts that have been put on over the years.

Appears to have a GSXR rear shock as well.
