Title: It never ends
Post by: Vidrazor on September 22, 2005, 09:06:40 PM
Well, the shop went to put the bike back together, and treated the tank to get rid of the rust in it. Turned out it had rusted right through and I got a tank full of holes now.

So I'm in need of a tank. If anyone knows where I can find one, let me know. Otherwise I may put this bit up for sale. Thanks.

There's a dented up one on e-bay now. Dents can be pulled and bondo works wonders on lines. Of course, that means some painting.

Yeah, I saw that thing on ebay. Wonder how many times that bike rolled over.

Don't know if the tank can be creamed. Haven't seen it yet.

Anyboby want a B4? All it needs is a tank.

Assuming the rust holes are in the bottom, replace or patch the bottom with new metal. Yes, that means welding on a gas tank, but it can be done safely.

Um, recoup my losses.

Don't worry about it. I'm probably going to hack something up.

The shop guy mentioned something about using some aluminized sealer, although he doesn't think it would last too long. I was wondering if he put the sealer on it and I kreemed the tank if that would do it.

Well, it seems things don't look so bad with the tank. Unusually, it was the right side that developed the holes. They were a small series of holes that spanned from the bottom center outwards

I misunderstood the comments about the tank sealant, and it appears it will last for an indefinite period of time, and it was subsequent rust development the shop guy was concerned with. I think that applying the sealant on the outside and then using Kreem on the inside may take care of business.

I'll probably keep and eye out for another tank anyway, but the heat's off for now.  :bandit:
