Title: Jap import
Post by: bigbadmad on January 02, 2008, 06:33:55 AM
My B4 is a 1989 Japanese grey import, therefore it is limited to 100mph/160kph. I was wondering if anyone knew how it is limited?

Thanks for reading

Firstly ill tell you the way which definitely works and thats get an m-max derestrictor box.   The only other way which i have been told is to dig into your gear sensor and trick the bike into thinking that it's always in 4th gear as the speed limiter only works on fifth and sixth.

Ill sell you one for £25 + postage which i s what i paid for it and it comes with a little switch so you can swap it between restricted and de restricted if you want too. And im in the UK so might be faster to get it to you than jay. But does your cdi have two wires on the left plug or 3 wires on the left plug?

I have no idea, I'll have a look later. If it's the right one I might well take you up on that sale offer

Some of the Bandits of that era were restricted by limiting the carb slide movements. There was an old post on here somewhere on how to identify and modify the carb top to derestrict the engine

Only the german model bikes where restricted in that way i think.

Would this not be easily seen by sticking your finger in the air side of the carb mouth and lifting up the slide if it goes all the way up your OK?

Yeah that is the case jay and to solve it all you have to do is remove the carb tops and cut off a bit of plastic.

My derestrictor box should work then if you would still like to buy it? Other alternative is one from apex leisure i think theyre called at about £50. Or maybe Jay's although im not sure whether that was for a 2 or 3 wire bike. Mine is used though and might take a few days to get sent as ive got to sort it all out through my dad as the box is at home and im at uni.

You only need to mod them if youv'e got a german market bike.
