If I plan to clean my carbs myself, do I have to mess with any of the jetting and/or carb settings when I take them apart?
The MAIN thing I'm worried about is that the bike seems to be running perfectly fine right now...so I dont wanna mess up the air/fuel ratio etc..when taking them apart. Cause I have NO idea how to tune carbs! :duh:
-
Don't bother if its running ok.
-
Yes dont fix it if its not broke :stickpoke:

AS long as you are careful with the float needle, and don't bend anything, nothing should change in the carb adjustment by taking them apart.
BUT, as the other guys are saying, why take them apart? If you think there is some junk in the bottom of the float bowls, you can remove the drain screws and drain them. If you capture the fuel, you can see if there is any crude, but even then, I wouldn't take things apart...

Well, the bike runs OK...sometimes its hard to start tho (especially when warm), but it seems to run fine otherwise. It just feel like they should be cleaned, as I have NO IDEA when they were cleaned last...any maybe my bike isnt running at 100%.
As for the float bowls....how do I drain them? After theyre drained, do I have to put the petcock at PRIME, or just fire her up normally? Can I just clean the float bowls...isnt that where all the junk/crud gets stuck?

Run a double-dose of SeaFoam through the tank before you try tearing into the carbs.
-
adjust the valves

you can buy special carb-cleaner fluids which your supposed to mix in the gastank to clean the carbs.
most of the time those are made 100% of kerosine. kerosine is alot like diesel, so just add a cup of diesel to the gastank next time and the carbs will be clean
sounds weird, but works well..
