Useless bling that may get you killed. I would never put such a thing on a bike that's used in traffic and it serves no purpose on the track.

Who, me? I like it very much - as a Christmas tree decoration.
It may also be a great addition to any vehicle for disabled.
Come to think of it, bike with such a brake light is a disabled person's vehicle :monkeymoon:

It's probably also OK for for Chinese Made Kids ATV 50/70/90/110cc, just as advertised.

Now seriously:

1. These lights are simply not bright enough.
Standard "ultra bright" LEDs are no match to incandescent bulbs.

2. They draw the wrong kind of attention.
Cops will notice them, but soccer mom in the minivan behind you will not.

3. Integrated turn signals are not noticeable enough.
Also check point 1 again.

4. You do not have to sacrifice safety to get chicks to notice you.

In the end, LED is good, but take the right LED and do not
jeopardize light's primary function - to signal your position,
action and intent clearly and brightly.
Here is a comparison between 24 LED "ultra bright" cluster
bulbs and single LED 3W Luxeon bulbs.
Pictures were taken with fixed exposition and aperture to
 avoid undesirable automatic light compensation.
Draw your own conclusions:

That's a cool bulb mate never seen it before! Now i really hate to steer people wrong so i wouldn't want to get anyone hurt i just thought it was the same as the rest of the led stuff sold like those clear tail light conversion things or if someone was doing a custom tail it was a cheap alternative but your point is well noted and nice link with pic.

Nice comparison!  :bigok:
Would have liked to see how the incandescent bulbs fared in comparison to these though.

Thanks. I didn't have incandescents at hand then, but I'll
see what I can do the next time I'm bored and not riding
(read: probably in the winter :) ).

It would be even nicer if I had more 1157 replacements
to compare, like some of those that cover the entire
housing with LEDs, or a couple of these:

The ones I currently use are:

Note that these are from two different sources, superlumination.com and superbrightleds.com.

No hard feelings whatsoever. I just feel obligated to voice my
(admittedly strong :) ) opinion when I sense someone's safety
may be in danger. Bling is a matter of taste (or lack thereof)
and should never interfere with our safety on the road.

Cheers,
Vlad

I actually agree.  I've followed guys with the cheap LED tail light integration things.  They SUCK!  Really dangerous IMHO.  There isn't enough differentiation between the running light and the brake.  Just thought your response was a little strong.

First such comparison I've seen, and very convincing.

Did you use red or white LEDs?  Wondering if white would be so bright as to show white through the red lens.  Is the red LED any dimmer than the white?

Thanks. I used red LEDs both times. White would not yield good results due to color temperature and filtering by the red lens. In other words, the color would be more orange-like and the light dimmer than with red LED of the same characteristics.
