Only days after fixing one problem another has occured on my 1991 Bandit 400 dsf v.
I got about 300 yards from home, everything seemed fine, then suddenly there was a loud noise from the engine.
There is now a very loud, non-stop rattling noise coming from the top of the engine. Could it be the tappets. If so how is this fixed?
If not ,what could it be?
Any help would be appreciated, theres two weeks till TT week on the Isle of Man and i cant miss it.
Please help.

Pop the valve cover off and have a look-see.

What problem had you recently fixed? Could the noise be related to something you did then?
Like Paul said, pop the cover. See what there is to see in there.

The recent was problem was the clutch cable snapped, I dont think it would be related.
What type of thing should I be looking for when i take the top off, sorry i'm not to up on engine work

Since you heard a loud noise, followed by a loud, non-stop rattle - broken parts.

hmm, i would get a pro to look at it if you dont know what your doing.
i think it may be time to pop by Slick's place in Andreas. he'll be busy preparing race bikes right now, but will tell you right up whats wrong.
