help i have a 91 400 bandit i have a noise from the bottom end at idel sounds like some kind of rattle but when i pull in the clutch lever the noise goes away?could it be a bearing on the clutch basket?or the basket itself? any advice would help thanks
-
maybe try tightening the clutch
-
do you mean the clutch springs?
-
sorry i have not taken it apart yet but does the basket have some kind of bearing that it rides on?
-
yes and a big nut

Best thing if you don't have a manual is 1 Get one! :stfu:  Or go to a parts fisch like on http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/suzuki-motorcycle-gsf400m-bandit-1991/o/m6135 (http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/suzuki-motorcycle-gsf400m-bandit-1991/o/m6135) then you can look at the pics. Yes there are brgs but most make noise when its reliesed!

It's your timing chain tension adjuster. You need to replace it. My B4 did the same thing, always sounded like it was rattling, especially at idle. I had the tensioner replaced and it felt like I had a rebuilt engine! Smooth!

i can try that but i don't think that is my problem if you pull in the clutch lever at idel the noise goes away release the lever again the noise reapears?and come to think of it the bike was getting harder to shift into gears at times?thanks guys so far for all the replys

It could just be the cush drive in the back of your basket is worn out. No way to sort it out other than a new basket. But it wont do any damage running it with the noise.
-
they are notorious for the baskets coming loose and the symptoms are hard shifting once its loose it wares on the bearing as well
-
do you just open it up and tighten it up or something?
no idea about clutches :duh:
-
yeah take the cover off , usually you use a new gasket then you take 15-20 off and tighten #6
