NEED HELP CDI repair
« on: September 10, 2013, 04:59:05 PM »
Hi,

I have a CDI unit 32900-10D00 with at least 1 burned component, the V1 and the T1 might be burned as well.

Picture:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9oo4KoEspiOb3BJejdjUWpuTFU/edit?usp=sharing

Does anyone know the components references?!
I've checked this link http://sgforums.com/forums/13/topics/218112 but it has no reference to the V1 and T1

Thanks

westco@fsmailnet I emailed them today about my igniter unit, will try and keep you posted with their reply, basically I want to know if they can read and assess or reprogram and repair the units

So i got replacements for the V1 but had no luck with the T1

Found out that this was caused by the voltage regulator...

Gona refurbish the CDi and test with another regulator

Is there any numbers on the transistor(T1)?

well, kevprojex in Cradley Heath are helpful but only to the point of recommending a full diagnostic DYNO run and as they are 260 miles away its back to the drawing board or at least the internetnext port of call Ace motorcycles in Bude, Cornwall, a mere 62 miles away

Not good....this is most likely a pass transistor, situations like this I draw out a schematic of  the circuit (or just part of it in this case) and figure out the best choice. if the failure was caused by HV there most likely more failed components. The ones on ebay are looking pretty good right now.

Hey guys. I repaired my CDI with parts I got from digikey.com. The part numbers for the capacitors I got are:
P5567-ND
P5164-ND

I got a couple of extras for each in case I screwed it up. Also, I bought a soldering iron from parts-express.com. The part number for the iron is 374-100. I also got quality solder and a desoldering pump (370-030).

The iron and pump were both inexpensive and good quality. I'd never done soldering like this but with lots of patience, it was fairly easy. It's extremely important to take your time. I probably spent 4 hours total, but as I said I am totally inexperienced with soldering. Also, the desoldering pump was very helpful for removing the old caps and getting the excess solder from the board.

Give it a try. It's already broken, so you can't hurt it, right? Good luck!  :thumb:

according to the Pinned CDI topic, the transistor is:

ransisters :http://www.donberg.ie/descript/2/2sd798.htm (you'll need 2 of these)

I used part# BU806( identical to the 2SD798)

Granted I have never used it and not sure where to get statesside but it may help with tracking a similar component on digikey

The CDI is OK with the new part:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9oo4KoEspiOcWxaUHN6QXhydjQ/edit?usp=sharing

So I think it's fair to assume that this one is a replacement for the V1 component

New voltage regulator and all is good :)
