New boy needs new brakes
« on: July 21, 2005, 11:00:40 PM »
Hi all, I'm Billy, I have a 1993 GSF250R

and a problem. My front disc is warped and I need a new one. I can get the EBC replacement but I'm a bit skint at the moment. Can anyone tell me what other brands make decent but value discs? And does anyone here use a disc which is intended for another model?

Thanks

If only my Bandit had another 950cc...

Then it would be a B12 with a big bore kit in it since a B12 is only 909cc bigger.

:welcome: That's a nice pic!  :bigok:

Don't know what the availability is in your country of single disc 400 Bandits, but IIRC, they use the same disc as the 250. Perhaps the GS500's too? Also might look at the 250 Katana, 250 Across, 250 Cobra, 350 Goose...

Thanks! I can get the 250 replacement no problem, theres a great site wemoto.com they have everything. I've read up on it and it's similar to many, even one GSF1200 disc should work. It's just I'm currently looking for a job so don't have money to throw around (I also need new tyre, and front pads are on the way out), think I'll phone around some breakers tomorrow

And probably end up with another warped one lol

Check used discs on a piece of plate glass.  If the breaker has a glass case type countertop (my local one does), that works perfectly!  :bigok:

Sorry I missed this thread the first time around (and the second!)- been too damn busy.

If Paul is right and the 250 uses the same disc as the single-disced 400s, then it is also the same as the left b12 disc.  The GS500 uses the right side of that same disc set.

Just the disc though... not the pads.

Here are the parts numbers for GSF250 gj74a:

EBC sintered pads, front: FA129HH
EBC sintered pads, rear: FA63HH
EBC disc, front: MD3006 (same as Bandit 400, 1200, GS500 etc.)
EBC disc, rear: MD3002

I had problems with using EBC pads with the standard disc as the EBC pads were designed for the EBC disc which (I think) is 10mm bigger in diameter so were not fully compatible.
SBS pads fit perfectly, but I found lasted about 3000 miles, if that.

The full EBC motorcycle catalogue can be found at:
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Assets/ebc2005ukmccat.pdf

Hope this helps!
