Title: oil capacity for 1990 gsf250 bandit
Post by: jonno007 on January 23, 2006, 08:17:45 AM
not having the owners manual for this bike is really frustrating. Does anyone know how much oil the bandit takes? need engine oil change.
Also, where is the oil filter located? where can i get a good replacement?

 :thanks:  :beers:

Oil capacity should be cast into the gearbox side cover somewhere around the oil filler (typical practice on Japanese bikes).

The oil filter is behind a bolt-on cover at the front of the engine, behind the headers.

I'll leave the best place to get one to someone with a 250, since we never got them in the US - and since it doesn't use a spin-on. Most likely, you'll be restricted to a place that sells Suzuki parts. Should use the same filter as a 400 Bandit.

not sure about the filter being the same as the 400 but is is different to the across (bandit is shorter IIRC).  I am fairly sure it is 2700ml without filter change and about 2900ml ~ 3L with filter change.

If it's really hot, it'll do.

Since I haven't seen a 250's owners manual, I can't say for sure, but just guessing, 10w40 is probably the recommended and it'll rev a little free-er with lighter oil.

I believe recommended is 10w40 but I have always put 15w50 in mine (no problems yet.......). Maybe during our "winter" I will try the lighter oil and see if it makes any difference.

Actually, I've got say that I've been to Brisbane 3 times.  Twice for work 4 days each and it rained every day (admittedly not all day but it rained) - and once for a funeral, was there for 5 days, that time it only rained the day we arrived and the day we left...

Bud

You need to get to know your bike, on nearly every Suzuki right next to the oil filler the volume needed is stamped into the casting. On my 2000 Bandit it says 2900ml

Check yours out, it will tell you exactly.
