So I tried running synthetic diesel oil in the b4, because I like how it performed in my cars. Everything was running & shifting great and it only ate ΒΌ of a quart the first 3 months 1000 miles so I completely ignored the levels. It has now been 10 months and 2000 miles. Last weekend it was a hot day and I noticed the engine was getting a lot warmer than the previous week. Same thing yesterday so I check the oil. It was missing 1.3 quarts. There seems to be a lot of black oil in the pan too. I’m thinking of going with a heavier oil and a different filter in a few weeks when I get time to do a change; I didn’t like seeing the darker oil from the bottom of the pan mix up with the new oil in the level window.
So is my b4 running like normal?
10 months 2000 miles = consumed approx 1.5 quarts oil
I was using 5w40 synthetic Rotella diesel oil. Maybe the cold weight was too thin for my long warm-ups? I’m thinking about going to Delco 15w40 next. It really runs and shifts great and I’m getting 45-50 MPG. The engine/air/exhaust is all stock.

IMHO, that's a little high... but not so bad I'd be wanting to tear into it right away... but wear is starting to take a toll on something in there.
OTOH, Suzuki said they wouldn't replace pistons on the "oil burning" 01-02 B12's unless cunsumption was worse than 1 qt/600 miles.
See how it goes with the heavier stuff, but don't be surprised if there's little/no change.

I've been using Rotella T 5-40, too. The last time I changed mine was after going to the rally in the spring, a track day and a little over 2k miles. I don't think it used a drop.

I use motul 5100 10w40 semi synth, but again, no noticable oil burning...
