Hello all,
have a 92 bandit 400 and was getting the bike ready for the season and was taking the oil filter off and one of the bolts snapped off. Looked a little old and beat on. There is still a good bit left on there. My question is are these studs that can be taken out pretty easily or should I drop this off at the shop and pay a million bucks getting it fixed?
put the cover back on and it didnt look like oil wasnt leaking but haven't taken it for a ride yet
Thanks in advanced

The studs are designed to break if you over torque them. Get a pair of pliers on it and twist it out. Order a couple of studs at your local bike shop and you'll be good to go...

Awesome Thanks for the help.

can get them here at sears hardware home depot lowes etc...

will they have the same shear rating as the suzuki ones?

no idea but tried and tested on the oil filter and exhaust studs all came from a hardware store like Lowe's, you make your own decision but the oil filter little 10mm nuts are not supposed to be that tight. Buy a torque wrench if you have no feel for how tight a 10mm nut is to be versus a 12 or 14mm or so on... :beers:

I snapped mine last year too. Got s screw extractor and some vice grips and finally got the sucker out. Couldnt find any replacement studs, so I just used a long bolt and screwed it in there. After 1 year, I changed the oil filter and it came out perfectly fine!
