what would a bandit with a 97 gsxr motor be worth after its running and driving?? I have a chance to trade a 2000 dr 650 motor for my old bike it still needs a little work though... LMK please.
-
well when mine is done im asking 3500.00-4000 hope that helps
-
yes I thinking I could just buy another dr 650 motor and still have 2k in my pocket. thanks man....
-
I got my bike back today. man that bike looks OLD!!!!!!!!! It's been sittingt a long time. It's missing more parts than I hoped. gona need more work than I though. but it's something to work on. I have pics but I don't know have to post them on here. If some one can tell me or I can send them to someone
-
as i recall in another post, you have to use a free web host to get your pictures on the web, such as photobucket, then you copy the link of the photo and use IMG.

keep in mind. the yellow paint and black frame was done in like 94. and its VERY DIRTY!!!!!!!!! I need a tank, air filters, seat, carbs and radiator to have it running. NOT driving. I need to redo the forks, change the tripple tree, and switch out to another swing arm(stock for now). it'll be a whilebefore it's going it's, been sitting for at least a year if not two.
-
Do you have any ground clearance left?
-
Yes I do ,BUT the fork seals are shot and I have it strapped down. Notice how close my lower tripple tree is to the fender mount (top of the fork leg) . probably about 2-3 inches.
-
That's kinda' what mine looks like right now.
-
bike is running. couldn't run it long because I don't have a radiator, tank or fuel pump.
I had to change out a few things. I put a different swingarm (stocker)on. they jacked the other one up. Someone tried to widen the s-arm to fit a bigger rear rim( i'm guessing), the axle didn't even make it all the way across. If I can get a radiator this week then I can run it longer. then I need to get a tank and a seat to sit on then it's drivable.... I can't wait
-
Congratz!!:beers:
-
got a 01 or o2 600 tank. it's ugly. but it came with a fuel pump.
I just had to get one for fitment purposes. I think I need to take out the rubber knees guards on the frame.

gsxr 400. if and when you do your swap you are going to need to use the gsxr guages. If you don't you are going to have to by pass it by hooking the red/blk stripe and the black with/green stripe together. If they are not the fuel pump will not get the signal to turn on. It took me a week and a half to figure this out hope this helps you in the future. also alot of being pissed off!
-
thanks fpr the fyi, I have a gsxr400 radiator and a gsxr600 2002 radiatoir for sale. I just put a gsxr1100 radiator on my gixxer 400.
cheers

I have a radiator thanks though...

ok, I finally made some head way.... I got a 96/97 air box. Of course it doesn't fit. I had to cut the fire out of it. I put tape to cover up the hole that I cut out. I put the ****97 TANK/PUMP**** not a 01+ and I runs and idles ok. The 97 fuel pump has a vaccum nipple that is needed for the carbs. If you don't use that, it'll run bad. It still sounds ruff(like a twin) at idle but revs just fine. I'm going to try to some new plugs and I hope that helps at idle.
I'll post pics of the NASTY looking air box. and funny looking tank later on...
for now, I have a 750 motor, jetted carbs I think,k&N fitler and a full race D&D race exhuast. kinda worried about ridding it one the steet. I think it's going to be all unusable power. we'll see
need to get a battery. then it should be drivable in the neighbor hood.
GSXR-400 : there is a guy local that has a bunch of 96-99 gsxr parts that he is putting on ebay. what can I use from that style bike on my bandit. I'm thinking the front end and maybe the swingarm and shock. I'm looking for as close to bolt on as possible.
thanks
albert

front end would work would have to use stem, rear end would have to cut 5mm off each side and shouldnt be to bad need dog bones of different lenght. sounds scary i just went with the 600. good luck
cheers

Pardon my French, but Holy phuck!!!!! The wheel came up with in the first 100 ft. I have a 6 or 7 year old 160 on the back. I thought it would spin but of course NO! It bit and the front wheel jumped up. I was more nervous in 2nd. So I didn't really get on it that hard. I have to put the bike together better before I ride it farther. It's kind of half ass'd back together cause I could wait another minute to ride the darn thing.
it's also set up with GP shifting.

it's also set up with GP shifting.
thats the only way to fly!! :stickpoke: :beers:

bored...
so I thoughi's post a pic
-
This gives me all sorts of terrible ideas....
Any other info on this swap?
Steve
-
have to seriusly modify frame
-
yes lots of welding......
rear motor mounts have be moved. Aline everything to the chain.
frame has to be cut so the motor will fit. thats really about it. Air box will have to be custom. stock gas tank will not work. Not even close.
I would do a few things different though...
1) have a running bike so you know everything is working....
2) use a FI motor

well well well!!!!!!!!!!! the bike had a gsxr 600 set of carbs on it. :soapbox: freakin shop I got it back from. bought a 750 set local. put them on there and can get it to run. It idles real high but I think its all the extra chemiclas in the carb from cleaning it. have to change the plugs and I hope to drive it more than 2 miles....
also I bought 91 USD COMPLETE front end and swing arm with 5.5 rear rim I think its going to look sweet. if the swing arm and tire will fit
sorry to bring up a very old post but I'm excited again. about the bike.
-
If you got the motor in the frame, fitting the swingarm should be a walk in the park.
Feel free to take more pics and post them, especially of the detail work it took to get it in there.
:bigok:
-
Maybe that explains the e-bay auction for the bandit front end and the pic with the blue and white tank. Seller named Albert, located in Houston. Hmmmm.
-
NAAA that wouldn't be it.... well when the 600 carbs go up then I guess i'll fess up to it.
I hope to work on it this weekend. do the swaps.
-
91 gsxr front is a direct bolt on. only mod that needs doing is the stearing head stops on the frame are in the way OR... grind the ones off the lower tripple tree.
same for putting the bandit front end on the gsxr. That actually looks better on that bike.
will post some pics later tonight.
-
Looks like a sv650 front end early ones used the same bearing as the b4 so if the stem is the same length or close you could just swap the whole b4 front end for a sv650 front end
-
Thanks for the updates, Albert! Cool project. Keep us posted.
-
I was looking at the 96 USD forks I have. the lower tripple had the notches for the turn stops ( not sure what to call them) just like the bandit. I'm probably going to try the 99 front end to see how it bolts up. I may even try 99 tripples with 91 forks to see what happens. just for general ideas for possible swaps for you all.
I can tell you that the bike handles a hell of alot better just with the clips-on's being in a better position than before, it just feels like I should be throwing it into a corner now. Can't wait to get it running right so I can slide the back end on the exits. well... then high side.
gonna try to put the rear 5.5 rim amd swingarm on this weekend. any tips on what to use to grind the frame with to get a flat surface? All i have is a disk grinder. I was thinking I SHOULD use a belt grinder.
also any tips on how to???
was gonna grind the left side and keep measuring the from the right till I take 6mm's off. the do the same for the other side. I have to remeasure but I think its 6mm on each side.
sorry for the long old posts but I'm getting excited about it again...
-
you can take the space you need for the swingarm off the frame , there is that much room? I usually have a machine shope cut the swingarm down to length then recess the bearings back and all looks stock. A bit pricey compared to what you are going to do but ive heard of way worse tried frabrications with sucess. Mine is 5mm cut off with the gsxr 2002 swinger same with the 06 gsxr 1000 im switching to. I think the rgv is 5mm or something like that herrtodd or bartjan can tell you that i think they have rgv swingers.
-
That freakin just happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
put the a stock set of carbs on and it ran ok. then I got cocky. so I nailed it in second. The bike leaped foward then fouled 3 plugs. the was a LONG ride home. so I got it home pulled the carbs looked in my intake and see a peice of air box sitting on my valve. Try to get it out then it falls into my motor. :duh: the intakew valves were open. what are the chances of that.??? tried to get it out today couldn't find it so i said If I had to pull the head to get it out then I'll just pull the head to change a bent valve. Something worth doing it. put it together and and also put in some 150 mains and now I can almost crack it wide open. in 2nd the tire breaks loose like I was in water. gotta get put a light on that thing.... This thing is unbelievably(sp?) quick. cant wait to get a real jetting and sync the carbs. gonna try to get some video of it...
-

herrtodd has an rgv swinger
i have a rvf swinger and i didnt have any time yet to make it fit :annoy:

UPDATE: :yikes:
ok I have it running pretty good. I have an old old rear tire on it so it spins a lot. I have yet to be able do roll on wheelie. I've been doing some down the street runs. I have a place that has a 3/4 mile striaght. finnally got to run it down there. You sitting??? Looks like i'm getting 135-140 in the 1/4. I ran that twice. So thats good enough for me. I'm not positive the speedo is right but I'm definaltelly flying. The bike is rock solid at that speed even with no front fairing. I'm tryng to tuck under the inst. cluster( 91 gsxr). The wind isn't too bad at all. If its runs fine for two more weeks I'm taking it to the 1/4 mile track. I'd like to see some real times. Mean while I'll be asking some of my friends for some roll-ons. My friends 06 r6 doesn't feel thas fast as the bandit. Im hoping that some one will be offering a free dyno day soon.
will keep you guys up dated.

Tried to make a video for ya'll( I'm from Texas). Not very good but here it is. me driving off down the road. Notice the smoke from the first gear rolling burn out. You can't tell, but it was getting sidways all through second. Sorry it's not better. but I tried. Listen to the revs thats about the best part.

On a side note!!!!!!!! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF GAS to complete the ride. It really sucks when you run out and your about a 2 miles from home. Thanks goodness for the bike being very light and for my wife, who let me hang on to her SUV and pulled me home.
-
107.48 at the wheels.....
happy with that for now only because I know there is probablt 10 more with carb work.. the guy thought 90hp tops.
-
want the carbs have money now pm me mate or lets hook up on IM
-
lucky you. I just got back from school (in rochester) to my house in albany to get my bike started. less than 30 degrees out and snowing, but its my only weekend home before I bring it to rochester. I wouldnt mind the nice "sweatshirt" weather your riding in.
-
Nice work. :congrats:
-
Notice the smoke from the first gear rolling burn out.
That was wood-inducing right there...
-
Yo what fuel pump did you have to use cuz the 98 is oval and the 2002 is round and the 2002 tank has a round hole clue me in brother scrambling to get parts.
cheers

96-99 style tank. it has a vacumm line that goes on the petcock.
Well I spent 2 hours breaking crap on the bandit and somehow got a 90 swinger/rear wheel on the 400. I couldn't find my spacers but It looks to line up pretty good. only use a grinder and a tape measure. BUT! I think I grinded for no reason. I think I might have been able to get away with only grinding the inserts the go over the axel and inside the bearings.

thanks mate i figured so i got a fuel pump for $15.00 a set of carbs what a score for $11.50 and a wire harness and cdi with reg /rec. for 115.00 now down to a tank guages and tail plastic and she be done.
-
damn good deal. If you have any questions let me know. I hope to have the bike up and running in 2 weeks-with the 180 on it. I would like to put a stock tank on there but at this point it really doesn't look so stock any more. I can tell you that the 01 tank fits better but you would have to cut the bottom out of a 96 and weld it to a 01. Both tanks look big on it but the bottom of the tank lines up with the frame much better.
After that disassemble the the bike and repaint it all.
