Petcock

Hi,
I have a suspicion my petcock is leaking. Any ideas on where to find a replacement or a rebuild kit? I see universal petcocks for sale but I don't know if they are compatible.

eBay is your best bet. Why do you suspect it is leaking?

i had fuel pass through rings and make its way into oil. I checked the carbs and they seem fine (although I don't have a trained eye). If I pick the tank up and tip it on the side it squirts out quite a bit.

That can only happen if it's leaking down the vacuum signal tube into #1. Pretty obvious way to check that. Barring that, the float valves in the carbs may be getting tired as well.

Replacement OEM can be expensive, I personally went with a Pingel and just shut it off myself.

Is the vacuum signal tube the main fuel line? And were you referring to pingel as a source for a replacement petcock?

Pingel is a petcock manufacturer.

The vacuum signal hose is a small hose on the backside of the OEM petcock. When the engine fires, it creates a vacuum that activates a diaphram that starts fuel flow.

Check and see if there is fuel in the signal hose first, if dry it's good. This means it could be a case of you having to replace the float valves in the carbs. Those are cheaper than a petcock for sure.
