Title: Petcock Tech
Post by: Krautwagen on January 31, 2006, 01:30:24 PM
I need some input...

My understanding is that the petcock should not leak any fuel when it is not recieving any vacuum.  My trouble is that when removing or installing my tank, mine is usually gushing fuel out (gets a little messy).  This happens in either 'on' or 'reserve'.  However, if I let the bike sit, the carbs appear to be sealing very very well.  There is no gas smell and the crankcase does not fill up with gas.

Do your tanks leak when you take them off?

Thanks
Dave

Mine did when the petcock was broken  Replaced it and it is fixed.

Yeah - what he said.  Yours is shot.  One of these days, one of those o-rings is going to start to seep...

hmm, i got a variation on this... the petcock isn't leaking but every time i leave it in the garage there's still strong gasoline smell, yet i don't find any puddle underneath.
The bike never caught fire with a match near it either
What could it be?

Check the bolts of your fuel cap, check the fuel drain bolts on your carbs and check some more of those things ? A small leak is enough to make a room smell.

Most likely, gas leaking past the floats and into the intake tract.  The fumes travel through your airbox and up to your shnoz.

The gas that's left in the fuel line will leak a little, but the tank shouldn't leak at all. Sound like you've got a worn/damaged diaphram in your petcock. Unfortunately the bandits diaphram isn't servicable. It's time to drop some cash on a new one or install an inline shut off valve. The later is the cheaper, but its also a PIA.

It's probably gas.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll try to pick one up...

Any better places to buy from than BikeBandit ($69.38)?  Does anyone have the Suzuki part number for it?

Part number: 44300-10D10. I had to buy one last year and it cost me more from the dealer then what you've listed from bike bandit. And it took 1 month to arrive! Welcome to Suzuki Canada.

Thanks guys

I found one on www.mrcycles.com $60 <-appears to be a bikebandit reseller.
It'd be nice to find a place online the lists stock status, rather than telling you after the fact that it's gotta come through a few distributors first.  [cough]bikebandit[cough]

1 month to arrive is not Suzuki of Canada, it's just plain Suzuki.  I like this little bike, but it will probably be the last Suzuki I'll ever own.
