Title: Picked up a '91 400, have Carb fitment Q?
Post by: Iyeager on May 24, 2006, 09:03:20 AM
I just picked up a '91 Bandit 400, it's minus the carbs however. I was just wondering what carbs are a good fit for this bike. It will be a track only bike for my wife and I plan on running an exhaust and pod filters and I do have access to a good shop with dyno and excellent carb tuner.
Thanks for any info,

Ian

I know a guy that I'm going to see tonight that has the carbs still for his 91 b400 if you're interested in the "original" carbs.  PM me if you are, and I'll see what he wants for them.

:welcome:

FYI - US 400 have 32mm Mikunis.  The rest of the world, including Stormi's beloved land o' Canucks, got 33s.

Oh CRAP!! I forgot about that!

Uhm,.. tell me again how that affects things?  Besides us not needing jet kits, as I recall?

AFAIK, it affects very little.  The 33s would be looked at as an upgrade.  Jet kits are still applicable.

Or a downgrade...  all things equal, I'd rather have smaller carbs on a streetbike (more midrange) and leave the larger carbs for track-only bikes that take more advantage of higher consistant RPMs.

But that's just me....  and I'm an odd Duck anyway.  And 1mm difference probably isn't All that noticeable.

6%... you should notice that. However I agree with you, smaller carbs are better carbs *IF* they have the same flow rate. My plan is to modify a set of 33's, which would make them flow almost as much air as 35's, but since the diameter does not increase I will not loose any mid-range power.

I might take you up on that offer racer, what kinda condition are they in? And yeah, the bike is going to spend all of it's time on a track at higher RPM's.
