SV650 Suburban Machinery Bars
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:29:06 PM »
I know there is a thread on SM bars v. clip ons over in the FAQ.  I just recently switched from Woodcraft clipons to SM Type 1 bars.  The clips, which I had mounted below the top triple, were just a little too low/agressive for me.  They killed my back particularly when commuting.  Also, I hated seeing that empty clamp on top of the triple.  So, I posted an ad on svrider.com to see if anyone wanted to do a straight-up swap of their SM bars for my Woodcrafts.  I got about 4 replies the first day!

I have to say, the SMs are perfect.  They give a nice, aggressive stance that is just a little higher than clipons but much lower than stock.  I find the stock bars to be too 'ape-hanger-ish'.

I just have a couple pics so far:

Here is a link to the SM page.  They also sell Type 2 bars which are a little higher than my Type 1s.  Maniac has them I believe.

Bars look good, there are a lot of options out there now, thanks to the SV, i was running a drag-bar, but am currently raising it up for a more touring stance.  I'm sure with the SM bars and B12 shock you are wanting to ride every day.

Off Topic:  What kind of front turnsignals are you running?  I like the mounting, like the new Speed Triple

Thanks.  Yeah - the mounting of those signals was stolen off the Speed Trip.  They are just mounted to a little piece of AL stock with two holes in it, on mounted to the rad guard the other with the signals.  The signals themselves are just LP mini-stalks.  I actually have new ones to put on when ever I get around to it - oval, chrome ones with clear lenses.

BTW, Nathan - where the hell were you last week?  I expected you to be at BOSS 05.  :stickpoke:

Bars look good. As soon as I get the extra $ I'm going to try them on my B6. I think I'm going to try the type 2 bars. Type 1 may cause a problem with tank clearance. SM said they would take a return if they didn't fit. Did you have to do any mods or just bolt them up?

Nah, they bolted right up.  The only 'mod' was to grind off the locator pin on the left-side controls.  The pre-drilled hole had the indicator switch pointing to the ground.

Whoops, I was hoping you wouldn't notice.  I forgot that I had tickets to go to a baseball game for my brother's birthday amongst other stuff.  My friend with the B12 didn't go eaither though....so I'm not the only one from NoVA that was a no-show, haha.

B-B,

We're having 'issues' with the PM system.  Even though you got the error, it still should have gone through.
