Title: Proof Positive - B12 slip-on exhaust on a B4
Post by: stormi on May 14, 2007, 10:05:05 PM
Hey all,.. as promised:

Dita's new butthole.

An ugly weld that we'll be cleaning up a little.

The view from behind

The only glitch: The centre-stand bumper misses.  We can work with this though.

This is Bazza's old exhaust off his B12. It has a 2.25" inlet.  This opens up the exhaust options for all of us.

And yes, I know she's filthy.  I will rectify this as soon as I fix her throttle cable ,... again!  I got to listen to her at 10K rpms while stopped in traffic today.  *sigh*  Nice way to say thanks for the better flow, eh?

Very good Stormi, you made it work when other said no way. That what you call outside the box enginuity. You even made it so that it can still be slipped off and probubly have better breathability, better check the jetting.

That's me,... stubborn stormi. :)

The goal was to make sure that if I was going to make that big a change, that I was going to open up the options, rather than limit them.  2.25" exhaust seems to be easier to come across.   If something happens to that pipe, replacement shouldn't be too painful.

According to the exhaust shop that I had weld it up, it's still rich.  Not obscenely rich, just filthy rich now.    Now that the pipe is on though, I'm going to see if I can jet her better.

Recommend you mask off just behind the weld and hand or spray paint 3000 degree black exhaust paint forward so the weld doesen't rust. Remove the masking and start the engine to bake it on.  Again smart girl!

The other half was talking about doing that, possibly this weekend.  I let him do that sort of stuff, cos if I paint it, it'll look like some kindergarten version of a Monet. ;)

The really nice part about that is I can take the can off, and not have to worry about one bit of overspray on it.

Thought you might like that.  :)  I kept saying it could be done, but I figured I should prove it to everyone. :)

In reality, when I wimped out and took it to a muffler shop to have it done, it only cost me $54 to have them do it, including the "fabricating" for the hanger.  They did exactly what I'd suggested, and ground off the tab on her old pipe, flattened it, and drilled a hole for the Yosh hanger.  Total price was well under what replacing with stock would have been.

When they took Dita's original pipe off they mentioned 2 things.
1.  It had been patched twice already, and that it was "done".  No more life in that pipe.
2.  If the drain hole had been drilled at the base of the pipe (where it meets the mid-pipe) rather than at the end of the pipe, that it wouldn't have rusted as badly.

Sorry, but for those of us coming in in the middle of the story, you kept saying what could be done?

And second, is that a section of mid-pipe welded on to your header?

Looks great.

That we didn't have to look only for a 2" exhaust.  This one being 2.25", it's a much easier pipe to source.

Good eye!! That is indeed a section of the mid that comes with the exhaust for the B12.

Now if she'd just stop pissing with her throttle cable, but that's another story...
