Title: race fuel or ethanol in a b4?
Post by: b4cruz on June 23, 2005, 06:24:30 AM
anybody using race fuel or ethanol on thier b4s?
if so, did you do anything to the carbs?
does the higher alcohol content
damage O-rings quicker?

Wouldn't race fuel only be necessary/show benefit to a higher than normal compression engine.  If you haven't decreased the size of your combustion chamber, aren't you just burning your dollars?

no sir ultimate 4 vp race fuel no oring harming 6% gain in HP relativly speecing on a stock bike i mix it half aND half with high test and still get the HP gain and way smother throttle response must jet richer unless your already a bit rich then it will straighten yur crapy throttle response right up! worth a shot once if you dont feel seat of the pant diff dont buy again . but id say you will!

b4s are 11.8:1 compression ratio
i say its worth it i think
@ least to try for fun

which one exactly are you using?
METHANOL
M-1 Racing Methanol has a 99.95% minimum purity. M-1 supersedes all ASTM specifications for pharmaceutical use. Due to extremely high purity, engines run cooler, and M-1 is less corrosive. We use only lined drums which prohibit rust, corrosion and metal deposits that can contaminate fuel delivery systems. Recommended for all methanol legal racing applications.

VP RED
A great standard grade of racing fuel. Used in any high compression race engine up to 13:1, off-road racing, marine engines, motocross, karts and personal watercraft.
• Color: Red
• Lead: 4.23 Grams per gallon
• Motor Octane: 105
• Specific Gravity: .730 - .745 at 60° F

VP-110
Formulated for use in drag race, oval track, road race and off road competition in normally aspirated engines with compression ratios up to 14:1. Good lower cost alternative to the other guys stuff.
• Color: Purple
• Lead: 4.23
• MON: 107, RON 113, R+M/2 = 110
• Specific Gravity: .73 at 60° F

gsxr400 do you know anybody racing ethanol85?
I hear if you find a distillery you can
get it for a little over $1 a gallon.
or you can brew yourself and mix it with
regular gasoline

I hear it only eats up FI engines
we run carbs so no problem here

I usally only try to run VP Ultimate 4 wich is OXYGENATED hense the power gain and ability to cut with gasoline but ive run VP red too its cheaper and not oxygenated . the U4 is what you want ! the purpose also with the leaded fuel is to cushion the valves will yur reving the shit out of it! methanol id stay away from try to use something you can stay consitant with the jetting! :beers:

So ethanol higher than say 50% wtih regular gasoline
would be too hard to jet just like methanol
i'd have to rejet when i switch back to regular gasoline

unless I stay mixed on ethanol all the time!

@ 11.8:1

We have 93 octane out here in VA, that's what I use.  I even tried Sunoco UIltra 94 before they took it away    I typically use premium in all my stuff, granted my other cars require it anyway.  My dad even uses it in his mower, kept it alive for 25 years before the chassis on it finally broke (engine still runs, haha).  I think unless you are racing, running premium pump is good enough...if racing, go with gsxr400racer's experience.

You always run the lowest octane you can that will surpress detonation in your engine. Just because it has a higher rating doesn't mean it will make more power. Im most cases if an engine will run fine on 91 there is a very good chance that it will make less power on lets say 104. That changes if your running a highly oxygenated  race fuel. But a rejet is in order 2 achieve any power increase here. The higher octane fuel is harder to ignite and burns slower as well that why it makes less power.

lots to consider all pointing towards the right carbs and jetting
thanks
 everyone
  for your input
   i'll keep resaerching
and hopefully try it in the distant future

if not at least it was dreamed up in this forum
