Title: Restrictors??
Post by: BanditGirl33 on September 07, 2005, 11:47:10 AM
I noticed another topic talking about removing restrictors. Can this be done on any B4 and add a little bit of horsepower, my B4 is strong but lacking there of, a little boost from removing a restrictor would be perfect. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is, and if it really makes a difference. oh ya are there any downfalls to it??

Where are you at, BanditGirl? Not all 400s have them, only the one's in locations that require new riders to have restricted bikes. For instance, bikes in the States don't have them.

Unfortunatly I can't think of anything really -easy- that can be done. There was some talk about people doing a timing advance mod (similiar to what they do on the bigger bandits), but I've not tried it so I can't say if it works or is even doable.

Changing the air filter to a K&N, adding a jet kit, and maybe a slipon are probally your best bet for 'bolt-on' power. Other than that, you may try going one tooth smaller on the front sprocket. It won't increase your horsepower, but you'll get a lot more grunt to the ground at the expense of top speed.

Wow you are being a great help, you're not to far from me, got any idea where i can get a K&N or where i can get a  jet kit. How hard is it to do a jet kit, what all is involved. I'm still learning about my bike, i can do almost anything to a car, but i have a lot to learn about working on my B4

Hey Banditgirl.  I'm going to school in Tuscaloosa.  I've seen another B4 cruising around campus here and was shocked.  Interesting to find out there's even another one nearby.

You should be able to get the K&N from any motorcycle shop... if they won't help you, take out the old filter and measure it then email K&N, they'll have an idea what to use.

As for the jet kit... I think there -was- a Factory jet kit, but I'll be darned if I know where you'd go about getting one if it's even possible. On mine we just put adjustable needles in, replaced the needle jets and upsized the mains until we got the mixture right. Kinda trial-and-error, unfortunatly.

I don't know if that is a good price or not.

Ummm... from any dealer that sells FactoryPro products, or directly from FactoryPro themselves.

Click here (http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prods41.html) for FactoryPro B4 jet kitS - they also sell BMC 3092 pod filters.
Maybe you can use the BMC number to find a K&N crossover?
