Title: retorquing cylinder head nuts and exaust bolts.
Post by: erik on February 17, 2006, 08:29:37 PM
I'm about to check the valve clearances on my bandit 400 so am reading parts of the manual.

It says you should sequentially loosen and tighten the cylinder head nuts and exhaust pipe bolts every 6000km (4000miles).

Can anyone explain why? Is it just a check to make sure none have worked loose?

Hmm, could be to do with heat! if they have been :bigok:  over tightend and then have heat applied they could get tighter and run the risk of shearing off just when you dont need them to. Not that you need them to shear anyway buy think thats what its for.
