Hey all,
Pistons on the rods and new rings almost ready to go on the pistons. My dilemma is Suzuki gives a service limit for ring end gap but not a minumum gap spec.new out of the package, they are at .012-.013. Is this too little of a gap? Does Suzuki want them at the service limit when new? Any clues?

1. No - 0.012 is NOT too small a gap.
2. No - Suzuki does NOT want them at the service limit when installed. When they are at their service limit, they need to be replaced.
Lots of pistons have new gaps under 0.010 and I have put together two stroke engines with gaps under 0.005

Paul,I knew Suzuki didnt want them at the service limit when new...Just hard to show expression at the keyboard. So I'm good to go...Now all I need is for Suzuki to get my back ordered valves in country.I just cant believe they dont have a master dealer inventory list.
Thanks for getting back to the post so quickly.
Mike.

Well it looks like I'm good at current ring gap specs......
Paul,How big was that 2 stroke with the .005 gap? yikes2::
Minimum end gap is .004- .0045 per inch of bore.

IIRC it was a Hodaka Ace 100, ported to PABATCO porting specs, with a reed valve added, using a Weisco single ring piston. We set it up at 0.005, but after a little run in, it settled in at about 0.006".
However, quite a different engine. I'm glad you found your answer.
