Starter motor?
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:46:04 PM »
Until the last few days the B4 has been running well for 1 month,a record for this bike !!
Usually the bike starts first time but the last few days when hitting the starter ,it can be heard clicking but wont start. After several tries it will reluctantly start ,same problem in the evening when going home.
I live in asia so cold weather is not an issue, the bike is garaged every night so moisture is not a problem.
How far generally should a bike be ridden for sufficient charging ? I only ride about 1 km each way to work each day but try for a longer ride on the weekendd.
Have checked all connections & sprayed with WD40 .
I am assuming a charging issue ,where should i look next ?
Cheers.

I think your starter relais is looking for retirement.

It could be a bad starter relay. A low battery has the same effect... 1 km isn't much charging... Why don't you just walk to work?  You could even walk home at lunch.

Use a volt meter and see what condition your battery is in... google "motorcycle battery voltage" and or "voltage drop test"... it'll explain it better then I could.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

If the battery is empty and the bike won't start and you push start it, after about 10 - 15 seconds at idle RPM you are able to use the starter motor once or twice before the battery is empty again.

Which battery ?
« Reply #5 on: September 14, 2006, 10:14:21 PM »
After looking further i see on the B4  specs that i should have a 6 amp battery but the unit which is installed is 10 amp.
Which is correct?

I don't think it's a battery problem. Not if it does start eventually. If it's a battery problem, and it doesn't start first time, it wouldn't start after a few attempts cause your first few attempts would have drained it even more. It should start first time because that is when wit would have most power.

That's interesting about the 6 amps and 10 amps though, but I'm afraid I have no idea about that.

I'm guessing it probably is something to do with the starter relay. Good luck anyway, whatever the problem is!
