Title: Swingarm
Post by: jcmjrt on September 13, 2005, 02:24:52 PM
GSXR400 put up a link to a GSXR400 swingarm that someone in the UK was selling but although at first the guy said that he would ship, now he's not answering e-mail. Another thought was the RGV250 swingarm. It looks pretty trick. Is it aluminum/lighter than the Bandit swingarm too? Anyone know what's involved with changing to an RGV250 swingarm/what years/models will mate up? Thanks.

Hi GSXR,

"tho need everything from the rgv any year and some work will get it on"

Are you saying that with the rgv I would need something other than just the swingarm in order to get it to fit and even then some work would be needed?

GSXR,
Could you give me a hint as to what else I would need other than the swingarm?

and any idea what would be involved in additional work?

Thanks.

Here's a picture of a bandit 400 with a rgv swing arm. It was the best shot of the swingarm I could find. In the build specs it says:

Rear end:
RGV250 swingarm, bandit wheel, disc & caliper, one-off brake reservoir.

I haven't found an rgv 250 in the States and I know that it would be too expensive if I had to have a wheel and all the associated brake with it. Shipping is pretty high from overseas. If it were just the swingarm, then it might be feasible. In the pic, though it does look like a bandit wheel. Any contact info associated with that pic? It would be nice to talk to someone who had actually done the swingarm.

My god that is one sexy bike! Looks like the tailpiece is shorter, is it? How did you do it? And that looks like a UK Spec numberplate hidden away lol

Just to clarify that's not my bike. That picture is from issue 120 of Streetfighters magazine. Yes, the tailpiece a shortened version of the B4 tail. Looks like the frame was cut and bent. The seat is a longer verion of the B4 rear seat.

Yep, its a bandit wheel, disc and cailiper. I don't have any contact info, but if you PM me an email address I can send you a PDF of the article.

This Guy from Germany plantet a RGV 250 Swingarm in his B4

looks nice, but even hard work.

The rgv 250 swingarm does look good but after talking with someone who actually put one on, I decided that I didn't want to do that. I'm trying to get a gsxr 400 aluminum swingarm. It wouldn't be quite as cool as an rgv 250 but it will go on muuuuch easier.

Also jc the rgv is way too stiff! Anything but perfectly smooth surface and it messes the handling! guy down the road from me put one on his b4 and then but it back to standard shortly after! He wasnt a happy bunny!

I hadn't heard that there was a handling issue but that wouldn't be good at all. The fun of this bike is the cornering! I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the GSXR400 arm losing a little weight, being attractive and adding a LITTLE stiffness so that it handles BETTER. Mods are fun but are always an adventure!

what are the advantages of using a different swingarm, if the weight would be the same?

is a stiffer swingarm needed when you tune the B4 to 80+hp?
Title: Swingarm
Post by: gsxr400 racer on December 12, 2006, 08:48:45 PM
now your on a different question first it was lighter
now its for a 80+hp bike yes i would now go with the gk73 swingarm from the sp model wich is braced and bolts right on! Or for top dollar you could have my 2002 gsxr 750  swingarm that has been extensivly modded to fit the b4 and the gsxr400 comes with linkage to make work and adjustable dog bones! for a mere $250.00

So what did you do to the 750 swingarm to make it fit? There's a 750W one going cheap at a wreckers near me ($50)

And how did you get 80+ HP from your 400?

piston kit milled head and cylinder gsxr cams racing carbs crank work port work you name i have it! im as close or on top of 80hp as anyone has ever gotten!
