my bandit is under a cover locked up with stabilised fuel and all the holes blocked up to prevent small furry things getting in there and hibinating. the 125 has a whole set of issues that should be sorted this weekend and hopefully in the new year i will pass my full test and be able to ride my bandit rather than the horrid 125 of doom
-
I think I will still be able to ride mine on the weekends. My part of East Texas doesn't get too cold for long.
I do plan on repainting. I am thinking of a dark, maybe midnight metallic blue with a flat black frame. How does that sound? I am open to any painting suggestions.
The bike is currently a metallic black with silver frame and no clear coating. It was a spray can job done by the previous owner. It doesn't look that bad but it need a new paint job.
Oh and the main thing I need to do is take off the fugly 3/4 fairing I have and make it a naked bike with just a nice windscreen.
-
My bike just got new lines front and rear and when the weather warms up a bit, it's headed to the folk's basement for a winter's rest.
Rob, I'll let you know how the stainless rear goes, its way firmer than it's rubber counterpart and I'm sure will feel a ton better. Can't beat $20 on eBay.
Project for this winter is going to be fixing the Rabbit. It decided to commit suicide the other day and roll downhill headfirst into a tree. The e-brake didn't hold and now it's time to play with VW's again...
Also: a super-helpful tip on bleeding the lines: use a syringe on the bleeder end to force fluid into the master cylinder then bleed normally. Speeds up the process tenfold. Can't take credit though, found out about it somewhere.

Ouch. That's unfortunate.
I just spent an hour changing a broken clutch lever. 10 mins to swap the lever and 50 minutes to find small little part that I dropped. It fell in between the exhaust header... grrrr.
The funniest part is: I was thinking "Just don't drop that one little piece" right before it happened.
Next year if I complain that my bike won't start remind to adjust the clutch switch!

i got so many projects i listen for a while tho~!

Hey Mike,
Been down that road too, sort of like target fixation when you're riding
( "don't run off on the shoulder, dont run off on the shoulder, don't run off on the shoulder"):duh:
Ant129, about your paint plans... just my opinion, but I have seen pics of a few bikes with blue bodywork and black frame, and it just doesn't look right. How about a silver or medium grey frame with blue bodywork? If I was going for blue on my bike I would try to get the dark blue that Ford has been using for the last few years, it is really striking.
As for my winter projects, I just finished getting rid of my passenger pegs, and installing this sweeeet exhaust hanger my buddy fabbed for me. I will post some pics of this soon.
Regards all,
Steve

LOL Steve - that's a perfect analogy!
For me...
Dual headlight/CF Buell Flyscreen conversion.
Treat/seal my tank.
Mess with gearing and jetting.
With lots of help from Jay (right, Jay???) I'm planning to put an intake cam in the exhaust side.
Save money for track time!

Can't wait to see pictures. What exhaust do you have?

Randy, I still want less power from the rear brake, not more. I already skid too much down the backstraight at Pocono.

You knew that IV drug habit would pay off sometime, didn't you?

Have fun guys! I can't do a damn thing to mine until the spring :crybaby:
When I went down at the track on May 13th, the asphalt gave me a severe shoulder separation. I rode the rest of the summer and then went to see a specialist. I had the surgery to put my shoulder back together a few weeks ago. He put it back together with a piece of metal and screws. I start therapy in January and then hopefully I can start to work on the bike by March sometime and be back on the track by April.
The bike needs so many things done for the next season, I don't even know where to start. I may just bring it to the machanics.

Damn, G. That sucks. Next month, I'll be 3 years post-op from having my labrum reattached w/ 2 screws, my rotator cuff cleaned up and a bunch of floating cartlige removed. All orthroscopic. I had surgery 1/30. By mid-April I was ~90%. Good luck!!!

Ouch. That sounds painful.
You bought the bike from Pro6 cycle, right? Is that who you use for work? I'm hoping I don't need to take my bike in anywhere next year, but if I do, I'd rather send it to someone who's actually seen a bandit 400 before.
I'm also going to try and find a shop with a dyno. I'd like to get some numbers from my bike.

Yes I bought it from them and also Pro6 has done work on all my bikes over the years. They are always very busy so get the machine into them during the winter if you can. Pro6 is a very good race shop but they ain't cheap. I've moved out to the country since October so I'll be bringing my bike to someone out this way in Northumberland county. There is a shop called Dan's just about 2 klms from my house and they have a couple of racers/machanics working there and they said they will help me out with anyting I need.

It does suck. I'm used to doing stuff. No hockey for me this winter.
I guess I should be looking for some kind of extra protection for this shoulder when on the track. I don't want to smack it again. Anybody got any ideas?

I'd talk to your doc. I'm guessing extra support (some sort of brace?) will be more important than more padding. Just a guess tho. The other option is keepin' the shiney side up! :stickpoke:

Even a Dianese crash suit only has CE hard armour in those parts. Your shoulder is kind of hanging in the breeze for the most part.
Maybe take some martial arts classes to figure out how to roll at 80+mph? Better option is like Rob said: rubber side down. Best of luck Gary!
Hey Rob, mind if I come over in the spring and borrow your carb sync tool? One of the last steps to piecing this thing together. And about the rear brake: it certainly is less mushy and more solid feeling. The mush was irritating me because it didn't really provide much feel so we'll see. I haven't had the balls to ride it yet since it's been so damn cold!
Going to a friend's garage on Friday night with a sawzall for a body parts harvest for the car. Remember manual tranny drivers: park it in gear!
-Randy
-
who the heck uses the rear brake anyway?
-
Pretty handy when you are maneuvering or when something unexpected turns up in a curve... or just to slide the wheel for fun :stickpoke:
-
in a turn thats scarry! :beers:

finals are january 6th and im done then but then im trying to sign up for bachlers in science/chemistry!? so i got a minute ive just been bored lately i need to get a job its killing me! :stop:
Do you have a degree already and are looking to add a BA in Science/Chem, or is that the degree you've decided to head for?
I ask cuz Boeing is in a hiring mode again after a long spell of virtually no new-hires. Many folks who've been laid-off in the past haven't been coming back (~30% return rate) and they're starting to go out "to the street" for folks. They have jobs in just about every field except religion, so there's probably something you'd qualify for. AFAIK, most of the hiring is for jobs up here in the Greater Seattle area (Commercial Airplanes), but there are major (Defense & Space) facilities in the St. Loius, Phoenix & Philadelphia areas.
-
No degree thats what i have to get as a pre rec for pharmacy school i need a bachalors in science! Thanks for the tip RED :beers:
-
well jay, theres a lot id like to be doing for the winter and maybe you can help me out.i posted earlier on today and got replies from pitter B4 and racerruss, thanks lads!ive a 95 B4 and wondering is it the gk73a (i ordered some before and the breaker asked is it the one with single or twin exhausts) model i should swap the cams from, are the gear ratios on the gsxr400 the same as on the B4,should i stick on gsxr carbs,me B4 tops out at 112 m.p.h.(going by the clock pitterB4) is it simply the carbs that cause this? And lastly ill be fitting a buell blast screen i purchased while visiting 'Iron Valley Motorcycles' in lancaster PA in september, took 2 months to get here but for ~$70 as cheap and cheery as chips! thanks lads!
