Post by: KSUGreggy on November 01, 2005, 04:19:27 PM: i now that stock my bike has 110/70-17 on front and a 150/70-17 in the rear.

Ive been given the chance to get a set of michelin pilot sports for a steal but they catch comes in teh tires sizes...the front is the same size as stock but the rear is a 160/60-17 and im wondering if this is a viable option. I'd love to have some sportier rubber as i dont mostly driving too and from school so i dont need a terribly long lasting tire plus im getting tired of the d205s ive got on the bike from the PO. has anyone heard of this size being used on the b4's? could it work? potential problems?

Post by: PitterB4 on November 01, 2005, 05:18:39 PM: That's been a fairly frequently discussed (debated?) topic here. Search this forum for "160" and you should find a number of posts. The bottom line is that it is doable. It may change the handling charactaristics a bit, though.

However I ended up with less usable tire than with a 3 inch tire :shock: Better buy a Michelin Pilot Power set, 110/70 and 150/60 :beers:

I've asked this same question to the Dunlop Race Tire supplier here in my area. He said don't do it. The tire will mushroom a little too much.
If you want tires for your B4, go get a set of the Pilot Powers. They work as well as any tire you can get for this bike. The only better option for the B4 is to get slicks.

Here's mine after a trackday. I was low enough to drag a knee (this is also the tire I have on in my avatar) and still had that much chicken strip left.

Post by: jcmjrt on November 03, 2005, 11:00:35 AM: I put an M1 on the front a few months ago and have been happy with the performance. It seems to be grippy. It's hard to say how long it will last but I've heard that it's reasonable on that as well.

They seem nervous at the edges and don't give as much feedback as a Michelin or Pirelli.

But then again, I haven't been on the track with the bike and don't push it obnoxiously hard on the streets. But, I've got enough tire experience to say that they are a great tire and the size doesn't affect me one bit.

Post by: PitterB4 on November 06, 2005, 09:07:16 AM: Thanks, Dave. I knew the 160 thing had been done. I've actually thought about trying 160 take-offs on the track. Most of the SV guys run them so there are lots of them available.
