Title: Valves seem really loud after adjustment
Post by: interfuse on May 03, 2005, 12:07:14 AM
Over the winter I adjusted the valves. I've finnaly got the idle to calm down. Now I've got another concern. The valves now seem really loud. I'm just wondering how loud should they be? I'm wondering if I screwed up the valve adjustment? I haven't even run the bike enough to warm it up yet because I'm afriad they're outa wack. However, the bike runs and starts no problem.

I've also had a few freaky backfires, but I think that was caused by my idle being set too low. Could that also be caused by an exhaust valve leak?

Did you resynch your carbs after the adjustment?  When I resynched last year, I was amazed how much quieter and smoother it ran.  I think resynching is supposed to be done after the valves.

Since I don't have the proper tools to balance the carbs. I'm sending her out to the shop today for a general tune-up...  Hopefully I'll get her back by the weekend.

BAH! Proper tools? We don't need no stinkin proper tools! Just a length of hose, a pair of vice grips, a roll of Duct Tape, and a case of beer! We'll get those carbs synced! Or... something...

 :beers:

Good luck, hope that does it for you!

Yeah, what he said!

Here's a carb synch tool for you:

I synched my carbs a couple of weeks ago with one. Worked a trick!

Steve

Cool site. I'll keep that in mind for next time. My bike hadn't seen a shop in over 2 years -- now she's stuck at one for a few days. For peace of mind I figured I'd like a "professional" look at it.

Out of curiosity where abouts in Ontario are you?

Yeah, if you have a mechanic you can trust,  it's not a bad idea.
I'm in Kingston now. Lived in and around the GTA for years, but finally escaped.

Lucky you. I'm pretty much always stuck in the core. I need to get out of the city more often.
