Post by: parkertr on November 25, 2005, 04:58:55 AM
I'm waiting for my first Bandit 250. It's a '92 model and might need some working on it... will be here this Sunday at 5pm... woo!! Can't wait for it! BTW, been lurking around and decided to join since I'm getting me my bandit! It's an upgrade for a teenie weenie Suzuki Stinger :)

cheers!

Haha cool, unfortunatly mine's the year they detuned it to 40bhp. I can't imagine it being revvier than it already is though!
Title: GOt the bike!
Post by: parkertr on November 27, 2005, 07:56:19 AM
I got the bike today and settled the paperwork as well... hmm lets see - the bike's paintwork is a little old (silver) and everything is pretty much stock. Got a spare engine to boot (that works - 45HP version also) too!

Took it for a spin and i must say that i need to get used to the turning... :( it's freakin heavy compared to my little baby stinger! gosh! I tried my friend's hornet and it was easier to ride (turn).

The bike is at my mechanic's now - one piston needs to be fixed, rear bearings should be changed, the horn fixed but that's about it. I might put slightly longer mirrors on it and get a paint job done - how about white?

The thing is - i love the bike, gotta get used to it - no pillion riders with me till i can handle the weight! im pretty small... 5'7 at about 147 pounds. The bike is a little heavy for me - go to the gym n work out? haha :D

LOVE MY NEW BIKE! - dont know what to do with the spare engine... sell? would anyone want a used engine still in great working condition?

I'll bet the weight is just a matter of getting used to it.  It is pretty darn light as far as motorcycles go.  If you want quicker turn-in, there are lots of easy ways to do that - lower bars, raise the fork tubes, raise the ass-end with a new shock or shorter dog-bones...  Tires will also have an impact.

:welcome: and  :congrats:

I'll bet the weight is just a matter of getting used to it. - Yeah! This is something I should be able to get used to :)

If you want quicker turn-in, there are lots of easy ways to do that - lower bars, raise the fork tubes, raise the ass-end with a new shock or shorter dog-bones... Tires will also have an impact.  - need some help here.. what are 'dog-bones'. WAnd changing the tires will improve turning? hmmm... my personal preference is to have a tube bar... but this one is the 'separate' one.

ALso... i've got a question. For the fuel reserve switch... someone suggested that i leave it in the middle instead of turning one off and the other on. whats your take? Need some help on this.

thnx mate! say, anyone know about what brake pads i can use with the bandit? - can i use ANY brand out there or is there some specific brand/model that will fit the calipers. i brought my bike to the mechanic today and he said that he'd have to order some... my rear brake is kinda wearing out...

You can use anything that's compatible - most garages will have a book of listings. I would go for EBC sintereds.

  :beers:

Nice lookin' B250!

Sorry I never responded to your other questions...

Yeah - you've already got clipons which should give you more leverage than the taller standard bars.

Yes, different tires have different profiles and will feel different on turn-in.

Dog bones is slang for the shock linkages.  Shorter ones will raise the tail and quicken the steering.  There's a thread over in the 600/1200 FAQ forum about doing this.  The principles are the same for any bike including the 250.

Have fun!
