when i start my 93 b4 it sounds fine, minimal valve noise... once it warms up the tapping becomes considerably louder..i removed the cam chain tensioner and checked the spring strength..seems ok...could it be the clutch plates? only has 16k on the bike....seems to idle higher after it warms up (1800k)or so...

huh. mine gets quieter as the oil works its way up top. then maybe it gets louder as the oil warms and thins out. There is always a "mouse on a typerwriter" sort of noise. Have you check the valve clearances? It should be done every 5000 miles or so.
You can adjust the idle with the little black plastic knob below the left side of the cards. adjust it to around 1250 or so when fully warmed up. This will kill it when its cold though and you'll have to choke it more probably.
