Chain lube ...... what product to use?
« on: June 04, 2005, 11:39:59 PM »
Anyone (Australian preferred) got a chainlube they can recommend. Currently using a Castrol product which contains NO molybdenum disuphide, problem with this is once the oily base goes there is nothing else just metal to metal. I am finding I have to lube the chain every 100 km to keep it nice.

All suggestions welcome

It's from a US magazine (Motorcycle Consumer News) known for their unbiased tests.
(They don't take ads, so there's no reason to keep advertisers happy.)

I use either the Maxima Chain Wax or the Mototex version.  I like the Motorex only because you get a small can that fits in your pocket and can be refilled from the normal sized can.

Also the Motorex product doesn't seem to 'fling' off too much.

Gone with Amsoil Heavy Duty grease. Lasts well, flicks off a bit but the molydisulphide is still there when chain is dry. Sprockets are holding up excellently as well.

Putoline O ring. Leave it to dry overnight, eliminates all chain noise. Still flings though!

Actually the perfect chain lube in not currently on the market, dunno it there ever was one.

Still waiting for the lube which sticks and stays, no fling, no wear. I reckon its not too much to ask for a road bike chain. Dirt bike much more difficult as there is nothing that dirt won't stick too.

The DuPont Teflon lube has been getting rave reviews. I haven't tried it yet, but will be as soon as I go to Lowe's Home Improvement and pick up a can. Don't know where you'd find in in Oz, the UK or anywhere else outsside the US though.

Click here for the stuff on DuPont's site.

Seems the DuPont stuff is also relabeled and sold in bicycle shops under the name Finish Line Teflon Plus - and Finish Line has distributors in the UK, Oz, NZ, Canada and lots of other countries, so you may be able to find it in bicycle shops that way if you can't find it in the DuPont can.

You mean like the Bandit's predecessor, the GSX1100G?

Your basic UJM using the 1127cc version motor with a shaft final drive.
