What year is my B400?!
« on: January 19, 2013, 06:10:42 PM »
Hey guys,

So I'm checking my manual and suddenly see in the specification page that the valve clearance for the B400 changes from '92 to '93!!?
Why isn't this mentioned on the valve clearance page in periodic maintenance chapter? This page just uses .10-.15 and .15-.20!

So I got thinking - how do I even know what year mine is? My registration says it was first registered 04-1993 (anywhere in the world), but does this mean it's actually from 1993?
The serialnumber is GK75A-115xxx
According to this site it's from August 91' - October 92'

I don't know what to think because for my other b400 (#GK75A-107xxx) it says first registered 02-1992 on my registration but according to the site it's from June 90' - November '90.

It's kinda important for both of them which year they actually are for valve clearances. I never knew there was a difference, why is the difference not mentioned in the valve clearance chapter!!

How do I found out what year it is? Any tips? Can I ID the carbs with the main jet differences? (102.5/100?)

Thanks

The easiest: look at the VIN plate on the side of the frame. It should give the actual year of the bike.

Barring that, you should be able to deduce it from the VIN itself. I think the manual breaks that down as well.

The only VID it has is the one I listed: GK75A-115xxx. It doesn't have a 17 digit one at least I never found it. It also mentions this 11 digit one on my registration as framenumber

Are you in the US or abroad?

US lists the year, you may have to go to the VIN breakdown via the manual.

I'm in the netherlands. The 11 digit VIN doesn't say anything about the year. GK75A = bandit 400 (<95) and 115xxx is framenumber. But there's no official information that i know off which framenumber is what year

Okai, so I called my local garage (Japanese motorcycles only), and they have a database in which they can search using the 11 digit VIN.
Apparently, my '92 GSF400 is actually a '91, and my '93 is actually a '92.  :stickpoke:

Good news though, means I put them right at .10-.15 and .15-.20..
