Removing Rust From Exhaust Pipes
« on: May 17, 2009, 09:25:58 PM »
A precursor to my massage below on painting my exhaust pipes, I want to try and get some rust I have on my pipes off before I paint them. I've been looking at a few options, but I'm not sure what to use.

On the "eco" side, there's stuff like this:
http://tinyurl.com/r5ghat
http://tinyurl.com/qdmnh3

Then I found stuff like this:
http://tinyurl.com/pkdbdm
http://tinyurl.com/quxc5v

Which seem more aggressive. Has anyone ever used any of these? Thanks for any info on this.

That last stuff looks promising (although is Naval Jelly like navel lint and do you really want something to remove it?).

The second one is just a rust STAIN remover used on boats to get rust stains out of gel coat.

Easy off BAM. The purple bottle with the orange spray cap and a couple of green Scotchbrite pads.....Rinse the exhaust off with water then wipe it down with laquer thinner and shoot it.
The rust will be gone and the existing paint will be roughed up for paint.

A good tool lets you forget about the dent it put in your wallet everytime.
