Hi Peeps,

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to swap out the Starter Motor without either taking the carbs / engine out of the frame??

Seems my Starters given up the ghost and if poss would like to get it replaced without taking her to pieces in order to do it!!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

(And yes i know probably sounds like a pretty daft question!! lol)

D/L the manual from the members section. Taking the starter out is easy. You don't need to remove anything but the starter.

All you need to do is losen the oil return, disconnect all the wires gong to the starter. Remove the two bolts on the starter and pull it out...

what Interfuse said! I did it on Monday night, and didn't remove the carbs or the engine. Lost a little skin though...

What makes you think it's toast though?

btw,.. it can also be rebuilt, the instructions are in the service manual, that may save you a small fortune.

I've taken the starter and cleaned it -- not for the faint of heart. Lots of little springs and stuff that are damn near impossible to get back together. Mind you after doing that my starter went from not-working to working.

I have replaced the battery and given it a very full charge, however i'm still having incredible difficulty starting the bike.

At first the starter will be sluggish, then speeds up then catches (as in not fire, but literally catch and stops cranking).

When warm however she starts first time no questions asked first time every time. However that requires very little from the starter so...

Cool i'll have to check that, yeah i checked in the manual seemed a little vague wondered if you guys had any little tips on how to do it / making the job easier.  :bandit:
