Title: Wont go into neutral.
Post by: greatmoorred on September 21, 2009, 12:52:42 PM
Took the B4 out yesterday and as stated it wouldnt go into neutral. When i stopped and flicked the engine off it slipped in. Same thing today. The oil was a bit low, so topped that up, but its not like it was running dry.
Any ideas. Feels like it might be expensive !

Is it time for an oil change too?  Mine gets harder to shift into neutral when it needs it.

My experience has been that difficulty going into N is an indicator that I've gone too long between oil changes on all my bikes.  I'd start with an oil and filter change.

When's the last time you properly adjusted the clutch?

I havent ever adjusted the clutch now you mention it. I'll look into that. And yes, its probably time to drop the oil, so i'll do that this weekend.
While im on, any idea how to get the oil filter past the down pipes ? Ive got stainless steel headers, and the last time i changed the oil i had to leave the old filter in. I dont want to leave it again.

Are they the stock pipes?  With my stockers, I remember it being tight but doable with the headers in place.  With the V&H race pipes, I think I had to drop them.

Just a clutch adjustment should do it.

I removed an oil supply line that runs from near the sump, up along the left hand side of the pipes (from sitting on the bike), and goes up to the head. Just unbolted the banjo hose at the bottom end and moved the pipe out of the way. Just fits through.
