could someone explain the differences in the chains, 525, 530, 520. i am going to bump up the sprocket to 48t, so i will need a 120 link correct?? Or, I would like to deep top end around 165, this bike is a runabout, so could I go bigger with the rear??

The numbers 415, 520, 525, 530, etc. refer to the size of the chain.
The first number refers to the pitch of the chain, or the distance from pin to pin, in 1/8" increments. A 415 chain has 4/8", or 1/2", between pin centers and a 520 has 5/8".
The next two digits usually, but not always, give the width of the chain in 1/80", so the 30 in 530 equals 30/80", or 3/8" inch. So, a 415 chain is 1/2" pitch by 15/80", or 3/16" wide.
Two of the exceptions are 428, which is the same width as 425 chain but with thicker side plates, and 532, which is the same pitch and width as 530 but with a larger roller diameter. 425 & 428 chains would use the same sprockets, but 530 & 532 require their own unique sprockets.
If you're looking for a quicker launch, or snappier throttle response, going bigger in the back will do that for you. You can get nearly identical results to a +3 rear with a -1 front - and that (-1) won't effect how many links you need. Some say on a B12, dropping from a 15t front to a 14t will shorten the life of a 530 chain, while others have reported no issues in chain life with the smaller sprocket.
You didn't say what bike you have, and I don't remember, but 120 should be plenty for any of the Bandits going +3 in the back, and may even be a little on the long side, so be prepared to remove a few links.

IIRC .. you will need 112 links for a 15/48 combo. The stock combination of 15/45 calls for 110.
If you plan on doing it yourself (easy job with the right tools) don't mess around, BUY the TOOL. I hear that you can get the Motion Pro tool from Holeshot for 20 somethin' bucks. Without it, you will encounter difficulties on several steps (removal, pressing the plates, riveting, cutting to length).

Remember that this mod will give you a speedometer error of around 15%.
It's great for around town. I have a 15/47 on my 01B12S.
