I could use your opinions....
04 1200 motor. it a complete motor kit. actually its in a gen 1 gsxr. anyway the guy said he stopped ridding because his friend was killed in moto wreck. So he parked his. He would start it from time to time just to run it. Everything was running fine. He should me paper work that he had the bike tuned on a dyno. (100 HP BTW :annoy: ) so he started it one day and went inside started playing video games and his neighbor came out and said his bike was smoking real bad. Hew turned it off and everything was VERY hot. Tank included. After this it never ran again. I think he said it start like twice and that was it. so it's been sitting there. for about 6 months now.
any thoughts on the bike's problem? I was thinking since the bike was just in the shop getting carb work done that is was jetted poorly. maybe lean at idle. I'm hoping new plugs an a carb clean.
Is this unusuall for a bandit motor???
thanks, in advance.

Why are you shaking your head at the 100hp? For a bone stock 1200 that's right on the money. Mine dynoed at 100hp/73ft-lbs (rear wheel) completely stock at 300kms.

An air-cooled motor that's allowed to run without the benefit of moving air to cool it will overheat. The source of the smoke would be my primary concern. If there were some leaky gaskets and the oil on the exterior got hot enough to smoke that might not be cause for too much concern. The other issue with overheating could be the lack oil in the crankcase and THAT would be a huge concern.
The tank getting hot would be normal considering the bike sat still. I suspect the owner got to level 3 or 4 in the vid game and lost track of time. My opinion... if he offers the motor to you for free jump all over it. :deal:

After overheating like that, I sure wouldn't give much for it. It's going to need a teardown to inspect for damage. From the description, I'd suspect it'll need to be bored - so that means new pistons and rings, too. Perfect candidate for someone wanting a 1216cc motor!

unfortunatelly it has a pipe and pods on it, thats why the :(
he wants $800 for the whole bike.
I have some flatslide's and a full yosh for it if I do get it.
I'm going to post up the rolling shassis as soon as I get it. I just want the motor.
