1997 bandit 1200 Carb pilot screws

I put a KN air filter in it now the idle varies a little , was told its too lean and to open the pilot screws, but how much ? and do you have to recap the pilot screws?

Someone already took out the freeze plugs in my idle air screws. I do not think it is necessary to recap them.

To make any adjustment to the idle air screws it is necessary to hook up a manometer to measure the static pressure in the carburetor. Get the bike nice and warm before you attempt to tune it!

I don't think a guage is necessary.. you just twist back and forth 1/4 turn at a time until it fuels smoothly.

In terms of air filters, I have had NO LUCK with aftermarket filters. My bike will run well only with the OEM filter.

Gauge would be neccessary if someone had manufacturer specs for carb CO settings and required equipment to measure CO content for each cylinder and set the carbs properly.

Thanks ,  I think I’ve found the bigger problem, the bike now stalls at idle and I smell gas , pulled the air box plug and gas ran out. Looked in the tanks and the filter to the reserve side of the fuel valve is not there and is laying at the bottom of the tank. Looks like all the sediment has stuck the needle floats open, I haven’t used reserve for years, always fill up at 150 miles,  Guessing I have to remove the carbs to clean them , bought a Haynes service manual its says all new o-rings and seals. should I get all new bowl seals?

When I was doing through cleaning job and carbs sat down dry for about two or three weeks I had problem with one bowl seal. It was leaking gasoline quite a lot and I had to replace it. YMMV but they could be sourced for under 10 EUR per piece so they are not that expensive and will last for many years.

I have the carbs all clean now, new fuel valve rebuild kit, clean tank, added inline filter, with a OEM type K&N air filter, I had to go 3 turns on the pilot screws to smooth out the idle. thanks all !

My Krytonite is carbs!! Been playing games with my Monster for years, threw new carbs on (bone stock) and realized when i sold my other ones i didn't take the stage 3 kit out. So its back to Dale to get ahold of his stage 2. I can do all the replacing but dont ask me how to tune the dam things!! Bwahahahaha
