my front fairing seems to be seperating from where the black and the painted meet on the left side of the bike just below the windshield. How do i reattach?

Which black piece..... the glossy "V" below the windshield or the textured dashboard area under the handlebars?  

Rereading your post it looks to be the "V" piece... I would take it apart and look for missing tabs... sounds like one got broke off when it was disassembled previously.

That black V piece is held on by the two exterior bolts, two hidden L shaped tabs and a center grommet. It is very easy to break off the tabs, the cover must be slid downward to dislodge these before trying to remove it.

I had to rubber mount and insulate the entire fairing to get rid of the buzz at 4000 rpm.
