Oil Pressure Accumulator for Bandit?
« on: August 07, 2006, 05:57:08 PM »
Has anyone used, or considered using, an oil pressure accumulator to ensure adequate lubrication on start-up?

I have read that much wear takes place during the first few seconds after starting before the oil has circulated to all the places where it is needed, i.e. cam faces, and before pressure has built up to protect plain bearings, etc.

Motorcycles sometimes sit for extended periods between use and I can imagine that, by pre-pressurizing the oiling system before start-up, one could increase the service life of the motor.

Any information, ideas, or product information would be much appreciated.

You can help the top-end lubrication by using top feed oil cooler (like oil cooled gsxr's had) instead of bottom feed.
The oil from the cooler will not drain to the sump then, and will reach the head faster after engine start.
