in local bike magazines i see when bandit 1200 are advertised,a referencs to k3,k4.and k5 models,is this a reference to indicare the year theywere built ,or something, and are there any obvious changes between a k3.k4.or k5....cheers...slo coach...ps they al look the same to me

Any differences will be minimal and incremental. Gen 1 B-12's ended with the 2000 yr mod. Gen 2 (I believe this is accurate) ended with the 2006 yr mod... I'm not 100% sure of this... but since the K designation began with year 2001 and carried thru 2005 at least, I'm thinking there's only minimal incremental differences at least that far, possibly on thru 2006. 2007 starts the B12&1/2 (1250) series.
Good hunting.

Yes, K1 is a 2001, K5 is a 2005. The K5 is the last of the 2nd Generation. The K6/'06 has the 3rd Gen bodywork, but still has the air/oil cooled engines. K7/'07 has the water-cooled engines. The 2000-back models have alpha character model year ID. A 2000 model year would be a "Y".
