What do folks tend to get for mileage (high/low/mixed)?  My B12 tends to get about 32-33 in mixed driving - lows have been below 30 on occasion, high...maybe 35.  Seems a bit low from reading some of the other posts -just curious if there is something wrong with the jetting, etc.  Have confirmed all settings are consistent with Dale's recommendations for a stage II, except for the needles - I have not checked those.  My exhaust still has the OEM mid-pipe.

When my bike was new I got similar gas mileage.  Then I rejetted with a stage 1 kit and now my 02 1200 gets between 35 mpg, when I am doing city riding and/or lots of accelerating/braking like on a fast twisty road or in freeway traffic, and almost 45 when on country roads with a moderately fast but steady pace.  

My Holeshot kit came with an ignition advancer that is claimed to help gas mileage.  I don't know for sure exactly it that is what made the improvement but I am sure it was the jet kit that made the difference.  I just followed Dale's base settings and that was it.

There is also a good explanation of the jetting process to get things just right on the Factory Pro website, www.factorypro.com.

Damn, that's pretty good considering the state of tune of your bike!  :bigok:

My '01 B12S with Dale's Stage II pod filter kit & 17" Street can and stock gearing has gotten a best of 40 and a worst of 36 and usually gets 38-39. (Overall, about a 2mpg drop from when it was completely stock.) I don't do much city riding since I live in the country and when I commute it's almost all 50 mph or higher roads to work, 49 miles away. When I ride for fun, I avoid major metropolitan areas like the plague. I'm jetted for sea level, since that's where I live, but the bike seems to carburate well up to 6000' - though I can fell it's running a little rich up there, but since that's just crossing passes, I can live with it.

thanks all...I had tried the carb tuning suggestions at Factory Pro-  the mains seem fine, as do the needles (based on how it pulls) - I forgot that I did not check the floats - the PO had dyno'd the bike and all seemed fine (F/A ratio), albeit a little down on power (~113 RWHP) probably due to the restrictive OEM mid pipe (Micron bolt on).  Definitely need to get outside the city on a longer trip and see how it is....just haven't had a chance since buying the bike.  The bike does have the HS ignition advancer.  I'm thinking I need to check the float heights - and ditch the Micron pipe for a HS or Yosh with the midpipe - then a least I'll be comparing apples to apples with the rest of you all...

Paul,  What size main jets and pilot jets are you using?  

I am using 107.5 mains and stock pilots with screws 4.75 turns out and 4 shims under the needles.  

We are both at sea level and, although my weather is warmer than yours, I wonder if I might benefit from a richer mixture.  Any thoughts?

Dave, I'm running the Stage II, so my jets are fatter than yours. I'd have to go look in the kit box and see which set of jets is missing to be sure (I jetted it and left it alone six years ago), but IIRC, they're 155's.

Cooler air is more dense, so it'd be normal for me to be richer than you.

I thought the "standard" main jets to use in a Stage I on a 2G B12 were 110's though.

I am going to declare victory - the TPS was off - adjusted it at the office and road home (stop and go Atlanta traffic) 25 miles.  Mileage was 34 round trip (counting the 25 miles into the office this AM) - would have been 32 without the TPS adjustment...so this seems like a 4 point improvement (and I wasn't being kind on the throttle).  Doing my part to stop global warming -thanks All.

Honestly, I've never actually worked it out the MPG or KPL in my case.

But around town the absolute best I can hope for is 200km from a tank.  Usually the reserve tap gets turned at around 180km.

On long boring highway rides I get around 300-325km before turning on the reserve.

When I'm out playing it's somewhere in between.

That's completely stock.

With mixed riding I usually go on reserve at 125~130 miles

Works out to ~35mpg.

well Mine is totally stock 18K miles on it, it gets LOW 30's around town, I think some of it is Im a pretty big guy, 6'1" and 300#'s,  I did recently check and my TPS did need adjustment so if I can get another 2-3 out of it around town I will be happy. I will post back after I run this tank out.

OK first full around town tank got 33.5, today ona full highway day with speeds varying from small towns to 140mph it got 35mpg. I guess its OK but im going to tune it up and get the valves adjusted to see if it can get better.

32-36 depending on my behavior.  I have a HS stage 2 jet kit,  HS header,  GSXR cam,  stock gearing.  Same (a little better actually) than my bone stocker gets.

As the adrenaline goes up, the MPG goes down.  :bandit:

Look at it this way... regular folks pay good $$$ for a rollercoaster ride. We pay a little extra $$$ for a roadrocket ride... and we get to be the pilot!  :bandit:

That like the 'device' a motoring magazine suggested should be used in all vehicles as a fuel saving measure.  This device is already fitted as standard to every vehicle made, but is not utilised by many drivers.  The device is a LRF, or for motorcyclists LRH.
