Hi all,
I'm new here but a very old bandito owner. I've bought my first one in 1990, a B4, then I bought a B12 in 96 which I regret everyday having sold in 2001 when I bought my current 2 gen B12.
I have put the bike aside for about 3 years now. She has 16000 Kms but I'm planning to wake it up and finally end my very first project to it.
Because she burned oil I've swapped the pistons for a wiseco kit, ported and polished head fitted with gsxr cams and some other bits like ignition advancer.
I've always planned to replace the airbox (I have the original one drilled), and that's why I'm contacting this board to see if anyone can help me.
Somewhere in my garage I have a magazine with a B12 and more 2 or 3 race bikes compared. The B12 is running 160bhp with a ramair box fitted and I've always coveted that air box but never had the chance to find out who's was making/selling it.
Can anyone shed some light into this matter? I'll be very appreciated.
If anyone will feel the need to look at the printed magazine I'll look into my garage and see if I can find it in the big pile of bikes magazines. I'm not certain but almost sure it's a German's magazine.

Interesting! I don't think I've seen - or heard of - an aftermarket ram air airbox for the B12... but then the there's a lot of bits for the Bandits in EU that we don' get, so it wouldn't surprise me that there was something in EU that US riders would know about. Then there's the possibilty of it being a one-off, too.
You could always one-up a ram air system with a forced air system. :trustme:

Sean, I've looked japan.webike and only found "RAMAIR MSSeries (SocksType)". Are those the ones you were mentioning?

You could always just hook up a computer fan to blow into the airbox.....It runs on 12v :grin:

Electric fans are no good for supercharging or giving a gain in hp, unless you have a seriously big one. Fans such as these are only used to move air, they are not designed to pressurise it, as is needed with such a system :thumb:

General Electric experimented with electric superchargers for aircraft around WWII (don't have the date, so it may have been pre-war or during). The basic conclusion is the amount of electricity needed to run the comperssor was too big of a draw on the generators and it is more effeceint to drive the compressor mechanically, attach it to the end of the crank or cam shaft or with exhaust gasses.
Just think of how big of a fan (or how many household fans) is needed in a dyno room to keep the cooling system happy - and most sources claim that's not even enough to even make up for the ram air effect on bikes so equipped when magazines are checking power figures, so a realistic supercharger is going to need even more than that.

Thats interesting information about the electrical supercharger. I guess theoretically it could work with say an auxilary alternator or something which would generate more voltage as RPM's climb. Take it off a regulator/rectifier and it should produce a decent amount of voltage. However with an unrestricted voltage I image the fan motor would produce a crazy amount of heat!
