Title: B12s second gen II stator cover on b12 gen I bike?
Post by: smearig on May 16, 2006, 07:33:40 PM
Need some help here.  I have a 2003 b12s and my friend is looking at buying a banged up '98 b12.  The guy said it won't start because it needs a stator cover.  Is there a way to bypass this so we can see how it runs?  If not, can we take the stator cover off of mine and put it on that bike temporarily to see it run?  Thanks.
Title: should fit

There is nothing on the stator cover to 'physically' keep it from starting other than oil running out. The covers are the same.

Stator cover?

The stator is in the alternator and there's no cover for that besides the alternator housing.

If you're talking about the covers on the ends of the crank, the left one is called the Starter Clutch Cover, the right one is the Signal Generator Cover. These two covers are interchangeable on all B12's and also interchange with the 1127cc motors in the air/oil cooled GSXR1100, GSX1100G & GSX1100F Katana.

Ha, my bad.  On my last bike it was the stator cover.  I did indeed mean the signal generator cover and now I'm wondering what the deal is with that bike if that cover does not physically keep it from starting.  I guess I'll know a little more after I take a look at it.  Thanks.
